Have you seen Mary Poppins Returns yet? Fans of the sequel to the 1964 classic movie Mary Poppins got a nice surprise Tuesday night when Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared on The Late Late Show with James Corden and incredibly performed 22 musicals in 12 minutes. You read that right!
As you may recall Corden played Blunt’s husband in Into the Woods (that’s one of the musical numbers)! As Corden stated in the opening of the bit, he loves musicals!
The full list of 22 musicals the talented trio performed are (in order) Cabaret, Chicago, La La Land, Beauty and the Beast, Guys and Dolls, Evita, Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins Returns, The Muppet Movie, The Wizard of Oz, Hairspray, Dreamgirls, Annie, Fiddler on the Roof, Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horrors, Les Miserables, Moulin Rouge, Once, Fame, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Mamma Mia.
The stars took to Twitter Wednesday to show their happiness with the performance.
The Huffington Post reported, “Miranda showed the greatest range, portraying a dog, a tree and even the wind in addition to Gene Kelly. Blunt had the most wig changes. And Corden was, well, Corden.”
The HuffingPost continued, “Blunt and Corden reprised their song “It Takes Two” from “Into the Woods.” And Miranda sneaked in a reference to “Hamilton,” the Broadway musical he wrote and starred in.”
