Disney Rakes in $7 Billion at the Global Box Office in 2018
According to a recent post at Variety, it has been a banner year for Disney who has smashed records by grossing $7 billion at the global box office in 2018. This milestone was announced late last week. Its an impressive feat considering that this is only the second time in box office history that any studio has hit those kind of numbers. For those wondering Disney set the record back in 2016 with $7.6 billion in sales.
It’s not surprising when you think about what a banner year it’s been for Marvel with “Avengers Infinity War” pulling in $2 billion at the box office closely followed by “Black Panther” with $1.35 billion.
Let’s not forget some of the other impressive titles that came out this year. Here’s a quick look at how some of Disney’s other 2018 blockbusters performed:
- “Incredibles 2” – $1.24 billion.
- “Ant-Man and the Wasp” – $622.6 million
- “Solo: A Star Wars Stor” – $393.2 million
- “Ralph Breaks the Internet” – $258.9 million
- “Christopher Robin” – $194.7 million
- “Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Though released in 2017 still earned $292.8 million in 2018
- “Coco”- Also released in 2017 pulled in $269.2 in 2018.
And let’s not forget that the year isn’t over yet! December 19 still brings the arrival of the hotly anticipated “Mary Poppins Returns” which according to industry estimates is slated to take in $65 million through Christmas.
