National Red Apple Day- Celebrate in Disney Style
It seems like a stretch, I know, but bear with me on this one! There are plenty of National Days out there (read: every day of the year), and while some of them are fun to celebrate, the vast majority are mediocre attempts to fill the calendar if you ask me. National Red Apple Day falls on December 1st and is certainly one of those ‘mediocre attempts’…UNLESS you’re visiting Walt Disney World or Disneyland Resorts!
Ever since Epcot Food and Wine Festival this year, the Resorts are incorporating the crisp sweet fruit into more dishes and drinks than ever before. Whenever a food gains traction at a Disney Park, it’s never long before it pops up everywhere! Like all great ideas, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!
Disneyland Resort
Candy Palace
You can’t go to Disneyland without biting into one of their famous specialty apples! National Red Apple Day falls in the heart of this years’ holiday season, and the candy-making Cast Members at Candy Palace have created irresistibly adorable holiday-inspired apples!
Caramel coated and chocolate dipped, the apples receive a holiday makeover that are only available until January 1. The addition of crystalized red sugar and Santa hats, the Mickey-shaped treats are a National Red Apple Day must-have!
Flo’s V8 Café
If your apple cravings fall under the savory category, head to Flo’s V8 Cafe in California Adventure! The quick serve spot is known for serving tasty meals perfect for cars who want to fuel up and get back on the road in record time!
The food is great fuel for humans too, and the Apple-Cheddar Pie-O-Rama is probably the most portable option on the menu! Combining sweet, soft-baked red apples with sharp cheddar, the flavor combination is definitely offbeat, but it’s nothing to fear! The cute little pie doesn’t even require knives or forks- or a table for that matter- so be sure to grab one on National Red Apple Day.
Carnation Café
You have to visit Carnation Café at least once on your Disneyland vacation. The quintessential Main Street USA restaurant’s interior is a snapshot of what Walt Disney’s boyhood local restaurant in Marceline would have looked like. Walt Disney World’s Palace Restaurant pales in comparison, and whether it’s National Red Apple Day or any of the other 364 days of the year, I’ve got the indulgence for you!
The apple-granola pancakes are a great way to fuel up for a big day at Disneyland. Make sure you come hungry, because the fluffy pancakes are loaded with cinnamon-coated red apples and topped with a crunchy granola that adds an unexpectedly fabulous texture contrast to the stack of cakes. Plus, you get to choose if yours comes with sausage or bacon, so like I said, be sure to come hungry!
Walt Disney World Resort
Animal Kingdom
Crunchy outside. Warm, soft center. Deep fried and loaded with apples. Yep, the apple donuts they’re currently serving at Animal Kingdom are the perfect, offbeat choice for National Apple Day. They were arguably my favorite sweet treat I’ve eaten this season at Walt Disney World (big statement, I know!) and you shouldn’t miss your chance to get your paws on one of those sticks!
Why is it that anything served at Walt Disney World is THAT much tastier on a stick? These three donuts appear much smaller than they are in-person, and one order of three perfectly round, perfectly fried red apple-loaded donuts are big enough to split between two people.
Pinocchio’s Village Haus
Your apple tour of the Disney Parks is coming to a close, but before we’re finished, be sure to hop on a monorail and head to Magic Kingdom for this can’t-miss stop! Surprisingly, apples have wormed their way not only into desserts, but into savory meal options too! At Pinocchio’s Village Haus, pick up their seasonal flatbread featuring chunks of apple, apple butter, brie, and chicken-apple sausage.
