Celebrate National French Toast Day at Disney World
Weekend brunch is a big deal where I’m from. Residents of my neighborhood (myself included) start our weekends around noon when we head out to one of the many, many spots serving up bottomless brunch! A few weekends back, we hit up a spot known for eclectic drinks and great French toast. National French Toast Day was coming up, so we figured this was a timely time to make a reservation.
The drinks lived up to the hype, and when the piping hot plates stacked with challah French toast were placed on the table, I knew I was in for a real treat. My friend across the table took one bite and proclaimed “this is the BEST french toast I’ve ever had!”. He was right, it was good…but he clearly never had the French toast at Walt Disney World!
Chef Mickey’s
Chef Mickey’s a great place to meet characters during breakfast. The setting- beneath the active monorail among the open floor plan lobby of the Contemporary- is worth the trip alone. Featuring an all-star lineup of Disney favorites like Pluto and Mickey, character fans always choose this hot spot as THE place to meet their favorite pals!

The all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet-style breakfast is great for sampling…but there is one item that is, was, and will always be a stand-out on that line: the brioche French toast! Disney has upped the French toast ante by making the sweet decadence even sweeter by using brioche bread and sprinkling the finished product with powdered sugar!

As if French toast wasn’t deliciously sweet enough, the chefs over at Oliva’s Café at Old Key West are doing their part to make their signature breakfast treat even sweeter! Using fresh baked banana bread in lieu of bread, this dense, very chewy, and very heavy French toast is the carb load you’ll need when you have a big day in the Parks ahead of you! Served with your choice of breakfast meat and maple/banana/rum compote, this easily sharable breakfast is the stuff that indulgent dreams are made of!
Good’s Food to Go
Old Key West is the place to go if you want to sample two of the best French toasts Walt Disney World has to offer on National French Toast Day. For the sake of the National Day, let’s say that bread pudding qualifies as French toast, shall we?

Well, this one really isn’t much of a stretch, because the croissant/sweetbread/breakfast pastry combo that creates the ‘bread’ part of the bread pudding is comprised of tons of different bases used for French toast- so it’s a win-win! This quick-serve option is great for a quick breakfast to-go, and you get that decadent rum-infused sauce from Olivia’s Café too!
Kona Café
Pieces of bread are stuffed with sweet banana filling before that half-pound concoction takes a dip in the deep fryer. You have to throw caloric caution to the wind and enjoy the indulgence with this one, because after its bath in the fryer, the brick-sized piece of Tonga Toast gets dunked in cinnamon sugar!

You can find the famed Tonga Toast at Capt. Cooks at Disney’s Polynesian Village too, but the quick serve version just isn’t the same. For the ultimate National French Toast Day indulgence, head to Kona Café and splurge on a soft, sweet, massive helping of Tonga Toast!
