An Early Look at Marvel’s Captain Marvel Movie
This is a new name in the Marvel movies and we don’t know too much about her — yes, her. With appearances on Disney’s cruise lines and in Disneyland in Paris, it’s time to get to know more about Captain Marvel. See the official trailer below, but read all about Captain Marvel first!
1. Release Date
“Captain Marvel” hits theaters in March 2019 and actress Brie Larson is playing Carol Danvers, an experienced pilot who served in the Air Force and is a former CIA agent.
2. Nick Fury
At the post-credit scene from Avengers: Infinity War, Nick Fury reaches out to Captain Marvel for help.
3. First Female
She’s Marvel’s first female superhero to get her own solo film.
4. Alien Military Officer?
Captain Marvel wasn’t always a woman. The original Captain Marvel was actually an alien military officer (Kree) sent to observe Earth. According to IndieWire, when a Kree device explodes on the base, Carol is caught in the explosion. Mar-Vell saves her life, but the accident fuses her human DNA with Kree DNA, turning her into a hybrid, and Captain Marvel is born. Captain Marvel hinges on the Kree-Skrull War, a massive story arc from the “Avengers” comics in the ’70s, which detail an intergalactic war between the two alien races.
5. 1990s
The Captain Marvel movie will begin after Carol had already gotten her powers. However, takes place in the 1990s, way before the Avengers have joined forces.
6. Minus the Patch?
Nick Fury (played by Samuel L. Jackson), will be in the film, but since it’s so early on, you’ll see that he still has both of his eyes at this point. We don’t know yet if Captain Marvel tells the story of how Nick loses his one eye.
7. Carol Danvers
Carol Danvers might be one of the key components to stopping Thanos in next year’s Avenger’s sequel, Avengers 4, which comes out in May 2019.
8. Get Your Tickets
Make sure you see it in the movies too, because it will be the first Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures-distributed film not to stream on Netflix, after Disney decided to let their licensing deal with Netflix expire. They will, however, release it on their own streaming service when the time comes.
9. Marvel Day at Sea
When it comes to Disney Park and Captain Marvel information, listen up. In 2019, Captain Marvel will make her debut during Marvel Day at Sea sailings departing Jan. 6 through March 8 from Miami. She’ll join Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Loki, Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange and more.
10. Disneyland Paris
Captain Marvel will also make an appearance at Disneyland Paris for the first time ever at The Marvel Season of Super Heroes event from March 23 to June 16, 2019.
11.Brie Larson
A little bit of information on talented actress Brie Larson, whose biggest role was in 2015, when she starred in Room, an acclaimed drama based on Emma Donoghue’s novel of the same name. She won an Academy Award for Best Actress for that role. But did you know that she was a singer too and released an album in 2005?
12. That’s What She Said
When asked about playing Captain Marvel, Brie Lawson once replied, “I have so many conversations with fans about the universe and this character in particular. I’m grateful for social media for that, actually—it’s such a great way to connect with people, to understand what it is they love about this character, what it is they hope to see.”
13. Captain Marvel in the Parks?
Unfortunately, you will never see Captain Marvel at Walt Disney World in Orlando. This is because of a licensing agreement with Disney when they bought the Marvel brand. It prohibits Disney from using certain Marvel characters in any of its holdings east of the Mississippi River.
