November 5 is National Love Your Red Hair Day
National Love Your Red Hair Day is this November 5th so we wanted to honor some of our favorite Disney gingers!
Ariel
Let’s start with the rebellious 16-year-old Ariel from the 1989 megahit movie The Little Mermaid, who’s known for her bright red long locks, blue eyes, green tail and purple seashell bikini top. The movie is based on a story of the same name by the legendary Hans Christian Andersen. It has been said that the filmmakers were arguing about Ariel’s hair color as they also wanted blonde, but since the Splash movie had come out with a blonde mermaid, Ariel’s red hair was kept.

Merida
Merida is another 16-year-old red-headed rebellious girl who is featured in the 2012 Disney movie, Brave. She’s the Scottish daughter of Queen Elinor and King Fergus. Merida is a tomboy and doesn’t want to follow the rules of being a ‘proper royal lady.’ Instead, she wants to take her own destiny in her hands, which includes fighting for her own hand in marriage when she is told that she has been betrothed. Of course, she wins and you’ll need to find out the rest of what she accomplishes on your own.

Princess Anna
Princess Anna of Arendelle is from Disney’s Frozen and is sort of based on Gerda, a character from the Danish fairytale “The Snow Queen” by Hans Christian Andersen. This courageous girl has to bring her sister Elsa back after Elsa leaves because she put her kingdom into an eternal winter.

Jessie
In the Toy Story franchise, it’s red-headed Jessie who yodeled her way into our hearts in the second and third movie. Jessie is a toy from Woody Cowboy’s television show “Woody’s Roundup,” and her red yarn hair is pulled into a braid. It is said that Jessie originally was supposed to be a cactus toy named Señorita Cactus, but after the original storyline was scrapped, Jessie’s character was created.

On the Disney Channel, one of the most popular redheads was Kim Possible from her own animated series that ran from June 7, 2002 to September 7, 2007. Kim fought crime while also being just a regular teenager. And she did both so well.
Peter Pan, Hercules and Megara
Last, but definitely not least, let’s not forget Disney’s ginger boys either, starting with Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t grow up. Peter doesn’t necessarily have red hair in every other depiction of him, but he does for the Disney movies. Then there are two red heads in Hercules, including Hercules himself and Megara, from the 1997 Disney feature film.
