Celebrate National Taco Day at Walt Disney World!
It’s National Taco Day!
Where I’m from Taco Tuesday is a highly regarded not-to-be-missed weekly outing that has two rules: eat tacos; have fun. The event began on a visit to New Jersey. Friends of friends launched into the nuanced world of ‘Taco Tuesday’. They suggested that each and every one of us who didn’t partake were missing out on the fun. Specifically, friend-filled evenings that aren’t taken too seriously.
My friends and I decided to tag along the following week. Were excited for some tasty tacos and chilled out conversations. ‘Picking the place’ turned the whole thing into a very serious, very stressful occasion.
October 4th is National Taco Day! It doesn’t fall on a Tuesday this year, but that shouldn’t stop you from chowing down on some delicious tacos! I know how frustrating picking the right spot can be. Do you really want to take time out of your Walt Disney World vacation to debate over a taco joint? Heck no! We’ve done all of that work for you. All you have to do is sit back, relax, and read on. Find out which spots are serving the best tacos on National Taco Day!
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe
One of only two quick serve spots I don’t mind in the quick serve-lacking Magic Kingdom is Pecos Bill Tale Tale Inn over in Frontierland. I like this place for 3 reasons. 1- the food is good. 2- you can choose to sit and enjoy views of Adventureland or Frontierland in the massive indoor/outdoor seating areas. 3- the toppings bar! Before you can load up on unlimited (and complimentary) jalapeños, salsa, pico de gallo, and guacamole, you’ll have to place an order so you can have something to top!
Tacos 3 ways is the ONLY way to go on October 4th. You have the choice of 4 different fillings. his is the perfect plate to order as a mid-afternoon shareable snack! I love to order three tacos when my lunch has been walked off and dinner is still too far away, and my favorite way to do it is to share! That way, you and a friend can choose and top your tacos of choice and make it the perfect pre-dinner snack!
Maya Grill
I’m not a vegetarian. I love a great roasted chicken and a juicy burger every now and then. Recently I’ve been going meatless thoug one day a week. It’s made me realize just how tough vegetarians have it when they visit restaurants! When you can’t eat one more salad, head to Maya Grill over at Coronado Springs!
You’ll think the place is closed when you see the number of construction vehicles moving about the property, but Maya Grill’s doors haven’t shut to guests, so don’t let the swinging cranes fool you! The vegetarian tacos are perfect for National Taco Day. They also get my recommendation for what to order on the menu any day of the week! The tacos are stuffed with seasonal veggies and topped with pico de gallo, blistered roasted tomatoes, and salsa verde.
Springs Street Tacos
Even if it’s quick-serve, I don’t usually like eating a meal on-the-go…unless the meal itself is served from an on-the-go restaurant just like the food trucks at Disney Springs! Meant to be picked up with your hands, the steak tacos with avocado crema are the perfect light meal to fuel an afternoon of shopping and exploring!
Fresh jalapeños give the taco a good amount of heat. The initial burn is quickly and easily remedied when that delicious avocado crema and queso fresco hit your tongue. The steak here has always been cooked well. In contrast to the expensive and highly-regarded Frontera Cocina, it’s not stringy or tough! If you’re looking for a good steak taco on National Taco Day, head to Disney Springs!
Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar
For a place that bills itself as an epic Indiana Jones-themed bar serving up specialty cocktails with surprising twists, it’s not surprising that I- and all of my friends- ignored the appetizers/small plates menu that was presented as a clear second to the cocktails list the first time we visited. And the second time. And the third.
Ok…I didn’t order anything off of the food menu at Jock Lindsey’s until I found myself out with a group way past my bedtime when my dinner had long since worn off, and my stomach was craving something to pair with my Cool Headed Monkey (try it, it’s very tasty).
The moment I was finished licking the pepperoni grease from my fingers, I climbed to the top of the nearest mountain and shouted to all that could hear to RUN, not walk to Jock Lindsey’s and immediately place an order for that pizza. After Disney security got me down from the top of Expedition Everest (kidding), I headed back to Jock Lindsey’s and started working my way through all of the menu items!
I haven’t had anything I haven’t thoroughly enjoyed, but the Incan Tuna Tacos are definitely in the running for top 3! The barely-seared Ahi is covered- but not overpowered- by a lovely soirée of toppings like pico de gallo, sour cream, toasted lime, and guacamole!
While everyone else visiting Walt Disney World will be racing to the Mexico Pavillion or lining up at Bongos, you can both avoid the overly-crowded mundane choices and beat the crowds by heading to any of the above recommended spots!
Every Day Should be Taco Day!
In this case, the most popular spots among guests don’t, in my opinion, serve the very best tacos, and unless you head to a new spot every now and then, how will you ever find your new favorite? So, we want to know if you’re going to try a new taco spot on October 4th. Which of the above tacos makes your tummy rumble? Let us know in the comments, and happy National Taco Day!
