6 Best Disney Football Movies Ever Made
It’s September and that means we’re past the start of college football season and we’re about to start the NFL season. What does this pigskin talk have to do with Disney? Well, Disney loves sports fans, as you know from this article. And sports fans love Disney football movies!
Disney Football Movies
Disney has also put out its share of football movies, so while you want for the big game to begin you might want to watch one of these great flicks with the family. Here are the best Disney football movies ever made!

Remember the Titans
Let’s start with Remember the Titans, a great film that is based on a true story of Herman Boone, who was portrayed by Denzel Washington. It was set in the 1970s, when Boone wanted to integrate the T.C. Williams High School football team. The film is inspiring, touching, emotional, well-written and, seriously, one of the best sports films out there.
The film was released in 2000 and was a tremendous box-office success, earning more than $130 million. It’s one of the best Disney football movies ever made!

The Game Plan
Don’t look for any Academy Award acting in The Game Plan, a movie that starred Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as a quarterback who finds out he has a daughter from a previous relationship. However, what you will find is the truth that Dwayne Johnson is a lovable guy and popular with audiences and the 2007 movie is just plain cute.
It’s about football, but more importantly about family. Look for cameos from NFL commentators and athletes, such as Marv Albert, Boomer Esiason and Stuart Scott. This is also considered one of the most underrated Disney football movies!

Air Bud: Golden Receiver
In the Air Bud franchise, this installment of Air Bud: Golden Receiver is all about cute pups and football, so do you really need anything else? Buddy joins Josh’s junior high football team once Josh finds out that Buddy can catch a football. The team starts winning and, of course the bad guys come in and want to kidnap the pup to have him perform in a Russian circus.
The movie focuses on Buddy getting out of his situation and getting back to the game. Does he make it in time? Kids love Air Bud, so pop the popcorn and have a family football and movie night!

Gus
Most likely, kids today do not know who comedians Don Knotts and Tim Conway are, so change that fast! These two are hysterical and if you’re going to watch a football movie, why not make it a crazy one with two comedians who will keep you in stitches. Gus was released way back in 1976 and is about a failing football team who adopts a mule to become its kicker. Sound corny? It certainly is and that’s what makes it so fun and a Disney classic.

Invincible
If you’re looking for more of a rags-to-riches football story, then watch the 2006 film Invincible, which stars Mark Wahlberg. It’s based on a true story about Vince Papale (played by Wahlberg) who played for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1976 to 1978 with the help of his coach, Dick Vermeil (Greg Kinnear).
Papale, without any money and has a wife that left him, decides to attend open tryouts for the Philadelphia Eagles and makes it. Unfortunately, he doesn’t have the easiest of times. Over time, however, Papale overcomes obstacles both professionally and personally and goes on to become part of a Super Bowl winning team.

How to Play Football
My favorite is a short Disney film that stars Goofy, called How to Play Football. If the kids have never watched football before, this is a funny way to introduce them to the game. This Disney film is almost 75 years old and is only seven-and-a-half minutes. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film with good reason. Goofy is hysterical and explains the game in quite a humorous, compelling way.
Hey when you’re done feel free to book a trip to Disney to visit the ESPN Center at Disney World. Play football!
