Review of Capt. Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Resort
Given that I have stayed at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort many times in my life, Capt. Cook’s is naturally one of my go-to quick-service restaurants. Every time I visit Walt Disney World, it doesn’t matter where I stay—whether it be the Polynesian, the Beach Club, or even Coronado Springs—I always find myself making the trip and snacking at Capt. Cooks. The mixture of tasty food, excellent service, and convenience is definitely unmatched, making Capt. Cook’s my favorite quick service restaurant in Walt Disney World!
Where is it?
Capt. Cook’s is conveniently located on the first floor of the Great Ceremonial House in Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This is an easy location to find for anyone staying in the resort, given that it is just steps away from the main lobby. The restaurant is also just steps away from the Polynesian’s fantastic Lava Pool, which is why many people can be seen walking around the restaurant in swimsuits! Guests can snack inside the beautiful Hawaiian themed restaurant, or they can sit and enjoy their food at tables outside while enjoying a view of the pool. Many other notable locations across Seven Seas Lagoon, such as the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa are also within view. For anyone in the area of the Magic Kingdom, the Ticket and Transportation Center, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, or Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Capt. Cook’s is easily accessible by taking the monorail to the Polynesian, and then entering the Great Ceremonial House.
Why is it convenient?
As I’ve already mentioned, Capt. Cook’s is convenient for its location, but there are many other reasons why this restaurant is convenient. First, it is a quick service restaurant. This means that guests give their orders at a register and then pay before receiving their food. Therefore, if guests are in a rush, they can hurry through their meal and don’t have to wait to be served as they would at a table service restaurant. If they’re not in a rush, they can simply relax, enjoy their food, and take as much time as they want. Capt. Cook’s also has very favorable hours. For seven days a week, this dining location is open from 6:30am – 11:00pm. Guests can grab food and drinks here almost 17 hours out of the day, making it accessible for both early birds and night owls. Because of this, customers can find breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert options, at Capt. Cook’s. Furthermore, everyone staying at a Walt Disney World Resort is able to use their refillable drink mugs here by accessing the fountain drink station, an easy way to refresh before heading out to the parks or back up the their room.
The Food
I love this dining location for a variety of reasons, but mostly for the food that is available. For a small quick service location, the menu is full of several options throughout the day. One of my personal favorite breakfast items is the Tonga Toast. Tonga Toast is a thick slab of toast stuffed with bananas and generously dusted with cinnamon. It is so delicious and the taste never grows old. If you’re looking for something more mainstream, there are many standard breakfast options like the Bounty Breakfast Platter, which consists of eggs, bacon, sausage, potatoes, french toast sticks, and a biscuit. For lunch or dinner, the ⅓ lb. Angus Bacon Cheeseburger may sound ordinary, but, for me personally, it is one of the juiciest and tastiest burgers I have ever had – not only in Walt Disney World, but anywhere! In addition to this, the menu consists of a variety of sandwiches, salads, and flatbreads. When finished with the main meal, customers can finish off their Capt. Cook’s experience with desserts such as a brownie, cookie, or an apple pie.
Overall
In my opinion, there is nothing negative about this Disney dining location. Everything about Capt. Cook’s is excellent, and I would immediately recommend it to anyone looking for a quick eat in Walt Disney World. This has been a favorite of mine since I first visited Walt Disney World when I was a baby, and always will be.
