Fun Things to Do on Father’s Day at Walt Disney World
There are countless reasons your Dad deserves a memorable Father’s Day each and every year. I mean, there aren’t very many people who will change your diaper, make your breakfast, give you rides to school, practice sports with you, teach you to ride a bike, do your laundry, let you control the TV remote, and tuck you into bed at night. And all of that happens before we’re even old enough to remember!
Since we’re babies, our fathers are by our sides every step of the way, and as we grow, his presence and patience becomes apparent. When we’re finally old enough to realize all he does for us, it’s only natural to want to give him a Father’s Day tailored to his every liking- it’s a great way to give back just a little of what he’s given us our whole lives.
If your father is one of the very lucky guys who gets to spend this Father’s Day at Walt Disney World Resort, he’s probably already guaranteed to have a great day exploring the Resort with his family! If you’re looking to go above and beyond to give him a day he truly deserves, there are plenty of fun and easy-to-plan activities and adventures for you to choose from. So let’s get you on your way to planning the perfect Father’s Day for your dad at Walt Disney World!
For the Sportsters
I haven’t met anyone who loves a good pick-up game more than my godfather. He’s always ready to jump into his kids’ garage door basketball games, kick a soccer ball in the backyard, or challenge me to a game of tennis at any time of the day or night. If you swore I was describing your own father in that last sentence, these activities will be right up his alley! Or should I say down his alley?
Either way, take him to Disney Springs’ rocking bowling alley for a pick-up game the whole family can take part in! Splitsville not only has multiple stories’ worth of bowling alleys to play on, their food is held in such high regard, plenty of folks make reservations just to eat! If he likes sushi, make sure your dad orders a roll or two- it’s some of the best on property!
If he loves to take to the links, making a tee time reservation can be a great surprise for your father- but spending 3+ hours away from him as he navigates the bunkers and sand traps means spending a large part of the day away from him.
Now, the entire family can join him on the golf course for a family-friendly round of foot golf! The 9-hole course uses soccer balls and oversized holes to make up the game, so instead of a driver, he’ll use his foot to tee off (read: kick off) and put his footwork to the test as he makes his way to the green!
Bourbon and Brews
Guys tend to like beer no matter what their age, but when a man becomes a father, something in the chemical makeup of his taste buds change and instantly transforms from casual beer drinker to massive beer lover like never before. If your dad is a domestic beer guy, take him to Baseline Tap House in Hollywood Studios where the California brews are flowing daily!
The selection of beers on tap is way too long to list them all here, and if you can’t settle on just one to try, my dad’s favorite thing to do is to make his own flight! That way, he can sample before he settles.
IN 2018: Lucky for your father, your Walt Disney World Resort vacation falls during Disney Springs’ new ‘Discover Bourbon’ tour! Pick up a map on your way into Disney Springs, and you’ll find a trail of restaurants offering up unique spins on classic bourbon cocktails and bourbon-based drinks.
Plus, most of the stops along the tasting walk are offering limited-time food pairings that were created by Disney Chefs. If you’re over 21, try sharing each of the drinks with your father- that way, you can try twice as many restaurants and make your bourbon tour of Disney Springs last all Father’s Day long! By the way, both Baseline Tap House and the Bourbon Trail have the official Dad stamp of approval- I asked my own father what his top choices would be, and these two were on the top of his list!
You, Dad, and the Open Water
If you want to spend some quality time with your father, plan to rent a motor boat and let Dad be the captain! You can rent boats at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Clubs, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, and over at the various Fort Wilderness properties! If it’s just you and your dad, you can rent a boat that perfectly seats two, or if you have siblings or other family members who want in on the Father’s Day action, there are boat rentals available that seat up to 10 guests!
If your dad loves to spend time on the water and you really want to surprise your him, you can make an advanced reservation for a guided fishing excursion! Don’t worry about packing your tackle box, everything you need for a successful day casting lines will be provided- all you have to do is come up with a decoy to get your father to the docks without ruining the surprise! We can help make reservations for the guided excursion, foot golf, or any of the advance-reservation activities mentioned above.
He’s YOUR Dad!
You can tailor a Father’s Day at Walt Disney World to match exactly what your dad likes- after all, you know him better than anyone! If he is the kind of guy who would love an elaborate dinner, Yachtsman Steakhouse or The Boathouse are great choices and still have reservations available- but hurry if you’re hoping to book one!
If he’s more into relaxing, take him down to your Resort’s pool- but do some research first! Most of the pool bars offer Resort-specific specialty cocktails, and if you plan ahead, you can choose the one that your dad would most enjoy and order it for him while he’s cooling off in the water.
There really are so many activities you can plan to do with your dad on Father’s Day, and we want to know which you choose! We’re sure that your dad will love to spend time with you, no matter what you plan to do with him- so…what do you have in mind? Let us know in the comments!
