Review: Geyser Point Bar and Grill
While the classics like Whispering Canyon Café and the impeccably-themed lobby make it familiar and homey, Wilderness Lodge has a newness about it that leaves plenty to discover! With a brand-new pool and new Vacation Club cabins on the shores of the river open for guests, the renovations at this Resort make visiting a must. While you’re checking out the new pool and cabins, you might want to consider stopping off at Geyser Point Bar and Grill for a full-immersion into the Resort’s renovations. I visited just a few weeks ago for the first time ever…and to say that I was surprised would be an understatement.
Atmosphere
Directions: Exit the Wilderness Lodge lobby towards the pool and walk straight to the lake. Look to the right. You’ve arrived! Just to the right of the Magic Kingdom boat launch and the pool sits the easy-to-overlook Geyser Point. My parents and I happened upon the spot just before sundown on a spring day and decided to check it out to “maybe get a drink” before we headed off property for dinner. When we walked the winding path that brought us nearer to the restaurant, I pointed out that the glassed-in seating section appeared as though it were actually an open patio and gave silent kudos to the Imagineers behind the design.
When we took a few more steps, I noticed that the restaurant isn’t glassed-in at all- it’s truly open on all sides! The beautiful patio encircles the outdoor bar serving signature and classic drinks to thirsty Wilderness Explorers looking for a nice summer drink. I guess it’s inherited because I absolutely love eating al fresco whenever the weather is nice enough, so when I suggested we stop for a drink, my mom was already off searching out a table for us!
From Drinks to an Unexpected Dinner
That night, we had planned on taking a walk around Wilderness Lodge before we headed off property for something to eat. I think it took no more than 30 seconds after scanning the menu before the three of us had agreed that we wouldn’t be going anywhere for dinner…the (unexpectedly) stellar menu had tantalized our taste buds enough to park ourselves for dinner right at the nice table my mom had found for us overlooking the lake. We placed orders for 3 glasses of wine and sipped while we mulled over our dinner choices.
My mom and dad each got the Grilled Portobello Salad, and I opted for the Grilled Salmon Salad. Fresh, wholesome ingredients are the basis for all of my favorite meals, and after reading the descriptions of both aforementioned salads, I had a tough time picking which I wanted to try! Since both my parents opted for the Portobello, I opted for the salmon to give us something different to try. The salads were ordered from the quick serve window just to the right of the bar and to my surprise, I was met with an open queue line!
The salads were prepared in no time at all, and from my first bite, I knew we had made the right call on where to eat dinner. The mixed field greens were nice and crunchy and the salmon was warm, providing a great temperature contrast to the cool, fresh veggies. Out of the pure goodness of my heart, I let my both parents try my salad. Honestly, I only did it because I wanted to try theirs…for research purposes, of course. Coming from a girl who doesn’t care for mushrooms, the grilling of the Portobellos brought out an earthy, woody flavor that made them not only tolerable but enjoyable! The same could be said of the grilled zucchini, tomatoes, and red peppers too! The vegetables sat atop a base consisting of a citrusy-flavored quinoa/brown rice mix studded with fresh cucumbers and tomatoes and ensured that each bite had a familiar flavor no matter which of the grilled veggies made it onto that forks’ bite!
The Verdict?
I had a great time enjoying a beautiful spring evening sitting on the shore of the lake at Geyser Point with my parents that night. My salmon salad was delicious, and I would both recommend and order it again myself, yet the true star of the show was indeed the Portobello salad. If I go back- ok when I go back- I’ll certainly order the Portobello salad for myself! In addition to salads, there is a lineup of burgers and kids’ meals that will appeal to pretty much anyone and I would highly recommend taking a party of any age range for a meal here! It’s a great spot for poolside lunches, though don’t discount it as a dinner option. My family and I made a great night out of it by pairing the bars’ drinks with our food; will you do the same?
