April 26 was National Pretzel Day!
What’s the one thing hockey games, concerts, movie theatres, and Disney have in common? Other than a guaranteed good time, not a whole lot! But if you venture out to partake in any of the above activities, you can expect to find soft pretzels for sale at each! April 26th was National Pretzel Day, and while it’s true that you can celebrate with a soft pretzel pretty much anywhere, the pretzels they’re serving at Walt Disney World Resort come in so many shapes, textures, and flavors that they deserve their own article. What a coincidence that this happens to be an article detailing the best pretzels you can find around Walt Disney World Resort!
Classic Mickey
Mickey Pretzels are so popular nowadays that there is even a clothing line featuring their adorable likeness. You can find Mickey pretzels at various locations in each of the theme parks as well as at Disney Springs, Disney’s Boardwalk, and at select WDW Resort hotels. These cuties come with a tub of cheese for dipping. These are certainly not the best choice if you’re after flavor, but for novelty’s sake, they’re a must!
Jumbo German Pretzel
Beer and pretzels are an age old happy hour combo that’s stood the test of time for a reason: it’s the perfect match! Disney makes some pretty smart moves, and their placement of a gigantic authentic German pretzel on the menu of the beer cart in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion proves it. The massive pretzel is served golden brown with just the right amount of cracks in the ‘skin’ that showcase the pillow-y center part. My pretzels have always been warm and have been spot-on texture-wise. The pretzel is absolutely large enough to share, and of all the pretzels on the list, is a serious contender for #1 in the flavor category!
The Lunching Pad
Over at the Lunching Pad in Magic Kingdom Park, it’s very easy to stroll right past the restaurant in the race to Space Mountain, but plan to come back after you’ve conquered all of Tomorrowland and are in need of a pick me up! A caramel stuffed soft pretzel is the newest addition to their always-changing pretzel lineup, and it’s the perfect nonconventional way to celebrate National Pretzel Day! On the outside, the pretzel appears normal, but once you break –or bite- into it, you’ll find that the caramel snaked throughout the center is anything but ordinary.
Wetzel’s Pretzels
For a different take on the dessert pretzel, take a trip to Disney Springs and head to Wetzel’s Pretzels for the cinnamon sugar pretzel. The lighter-than-usual dough makes both the pretzel’s outside and center softer than the normal pretzel, which I think is perfectly conducive to the cinnamon sugar it’s rolled in after the baking happens. It’s similar to a cinnamon roll in flavor, but minus the butter and frosting.
Jock Lyndsay’s Hangar Bar
If you want to get in on the National Pretzel Day fun but don’t really care for the bland, carb-y flavor of traditional pretzels, Jock Lyndsay is serving up the pretzel for you! In my opinion, they’re not pretzels at all and would be more accurately described as an everything bagel, but that’s not to say they shouldn’t be enjoyed on the national day! These pretzels aren’t twisted, but have been shaped into a round ring and are served piled high in a big stack and are flanked on either side by German mustard and cheese fondue.
Baseline Tap House
I’ve been to Baseline Tap House more times than I’d like to admit since it’s opening just a few months back. I love to get a glass of wine and take it to the outdoor seating area and revel in the thinly populated section of Hollywood Studios that will very soon be flooded with guests making their way to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when it opens next year. On my most recent trip, I realized I had never tried anything on the bar menu and made the quick decision to try the pretzel..and it’s now my favorite pretzel in all of Walt Disney World! The pretzel is huge (great for sharing) and comes served on a big board with mustard and cheese sauces if you want to jazz up the pretzel. The golden brown boiled-then-baked exterior gives way to a center that is surprisingly extremely soft and not at all dense. Yeah…it’s definitely my favorite, but I want to know which pretzel you’d choose on National Pretzel Day, so let me know in the comments below!
