Easter Eggs at Walt Disney World
However You Crack Them…
If you want to see them, eat them, or hunt for them, you won’t have to travel far to find the Easter eggs you’re after this season at Walt Disney World Resort. Every year growing up, I’d go to my grandma’s house to dip hard boiled eggs in brightly colored spring shades of dyes to celebrate the Easter season. Those days are long gone and I’ve moved on to pursue bigger Easter dreams. This year at Walt Disney World, there are more Easter eggs around than ever before, but if you think you’ll happen upon them just by walking around, you’re mistaken! You have to know where to look for the Easter bunny’s favorite snack.
The Thrill of the Hunt
Easter Egg hunts are so much fun. Everyone is lined up with wicker woven baskets in hand facing a field of grass dotted with plastic eggs holding unknown goodies. Is there a chocolate inside, or is it a small toy? There isn’t time to open them up or all the good ones will be gone, so children race to collect the most before time runs out! Grass-stained knees and a basket full of eggs are sure signs that the hunt was successful!
Disney has taken the classic Easter egg hunt idea and, naturally, put a family oriented spin on it. From March 16-April 1, guests visiting Epcot’s International Flower and Garden Festival can participate in “Egg-stravaganza”. To play the game, you’ll have to purchase a map. On the map, you’ll see World Showcase with empty egg-shaped spaces around it. The rules are simple: find the Disney character-inspired eggs as you walk around World Showcase and as you locate each one, place the corresponding sticker on the map to mark which you’ve found!
Parents, what ever will you do as you walk around World Showcase with your children in search of the eggs? Hmmmm…well you could help them look. Or, you could take this prime opportunity to as you sip, chew and leisurely stroll through the Pavilions, sampling and savoring bites and drinks from the International Flower and Garden Festival. If I didn’t know better, I’d say it’s almost as if Disney has thought of a way to help keep your kids busy so you can have time to enjoy the festival….(wink wink).
*Parent Tip: This is a great way to occupy your children as you enjoy the Festival’s food and drink offerings. Sip, chew, and stroll leisurely as you can be sure your kids will not be bored.
If you’re dying to discover more eggs, hop on the monorail and set your course for Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. The same pastry chefs responsible for the annual lifesize gingerbread house have caught spring fever and are exercising their culinary chops once again! Giant chocolate Easter eggs will adorn the lobby from March 24-April 10. Last year I was lucky enough to catch the breathtaking creations, and I still haven’t fully recovered. Beautiful carvings, airbrushing, painting, and other art mediums are used to turn these completely edible, oversized eggs into magical works of art featuring favorite Disney movies and characters!
Hunt for Your Eggs, and Eat Them Too!
All that hunting for eggs sure made me hungry! Traditional eggs are one of my all-time favorite foods, but something tells me none of us are really looking for eggs Benedict. For the best of the best chocolate eggs, head to the Ganachery in Disney Springs! Last year, the chocolate shop offered some rich, decadent Easter treats I’m still dreaming about, so expect some of those favorites to make a mighty return this year!
New this year, though, is something I can really get behind. There is a new ‘Easter Egg Surprise Egg’ created by the chocolatiers, and I simply cannot wait to get my hands, I mean, teeth, into its shell! A thin chocolate shell brushed with gold luster dust will look great in an Easter basket, but a wise person once said: its what’s inside that really counts. Break through the shell to discover a plethora of small treats begging to be devoured on Easter morning! In addition to the Surprise egg, you can also find traditional, basket-ready chocolates in the shop.
I realize that cupcakes are not eggs, but that does not mean that most everyone I know looks for the tiny cakes when they’ve had their fill of chocolate on Easter day. Easter-themed cupcakes will be available at multiple locations around the resort, but- speaking from experience- if you want the best in both the flavor and décor categories, head to Sunshine Seasons (Epcot), The Confectionery (Main Street USA), Boardwalk Bakery, and Sprinkles (Disney Springs). If you’re dead-set on the Easter Egg theme this year, at least one of the seasonal cupcakes created for the holiday always features a egg-related decoration!
