A Disney Lover’s Review of New York Toy Fair
The nation’s biggest stage played host to the nation’s biggest toy event this past weekend. The New York City Toy Fair took over the Javits Center, inviting top toy retail and wholesale sellers through the doors of the massive convention center to preview hundreds of thousands of toys that will see releases in the coming months. With Disney being one of the world’s most popular and most sought after brands in the world, it comes as no surprise that their presence was seen at many booths throughout the show. Here are the top three Disney toy highlights that you simply must know about for the coming year:
3. Pop! Disney Funko
After the tragic demise of Vinylmation, Disney heard the cries and pleas made by collectors for the line’s return, but instead of heeding the calls, they decided to go a slightly different route. Enter, Pop! Vinyls. The quirky figures have garnered mass appeal and are sold in many retail stores nation and worldwide- not only at the Disney Parks.
The Toy Fair revealed new Pop! Funkos from Monsters Inc. and Moana, and announced plans for a coming Nightmare Before Christmas and Aladdin line.
2. “The Incredibles 2”
One of the most anticipated animated films of 2018 is without a doubt The Incredibles 2. Cutting edge animation will pair with the beloved characters from the original film, and the combo of the two has Disney Pixar fans everywhere brimming with anticipation!
I wasn’t surprised that one of the biggest displays by Disney at the Toy Fair featured toys from the Incredibles 2. Dash, Violet, Mr. Incredible, Mrs. Incredible, and Frozone are the main focus here, but glimpses of new characters were spotted by savvy fair-goers, can you spot any?
1. Lego “Star Wars”
The #1 spot on our list of hottest Disney toys to watch out for in the coming year goes to Lego: Star Wars. The new Millennium Falcon set is a replica straight out of the highly controversial new Solo: A Star Wars Story film. The set costs $170 and features the ship’s original paint job! It looks like you’ll have to set aside a few days to put this one together, though, just look at all of those pieces and moving parts!
My favorite of the new toys announced at the fair is this Lego set featuring Yoda’s hut on Dagobah- aka the famed spot in the galaxy where Luke meets Jedi Master Yoda in Empire Strikes Back and completes his Jedi training. For a small set, the minifigures are plentiful! Expect to see Yoda, R2D2, and Luke all in your box when you rip it open! It looks like Luke will even balance on his hand like he does in the film!
