Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Beef Crêpe
The first time I tried a crêpe was on the streets of Paris where little stands were whipping up these delightful concoctions just outside the Eiffel Tower. It was a frigid January afternoon, and we were bundled in layer after layer of scarves and coats, looking for a warm snack to carry us through the day. Classic flavors of ham/gruyere or strawberries/hazelnut chocolate were the standard fare and they were amazing! After that experience, I have looked for crêpe options all over the world which would rival that amazing Parisian experience. On our last trip to Walt Disney World, I finally found one! Did you know that Disney offers a crêpe that is not only tasty, but unique and elevated beyond the classic French flavors? Come with me, today, as we find a hidden gem that everyone should try – the Beef Crêpe!
What is it?
A crêpe is a type of thin pastry usually made from wheat or buckwheat flour. It is made by pouring an evenly spread layer of thin batter onto a circular hot plate. It is then flipped, like a pancake, and filled with a variety of savory or sweet fillings. Our Tasty Treat Tuesday featured crêpe is savory and filled with beef, horseradish cream, baby spinach, and sharp cheddar cheese.
Where can I find it?
The beef crêpe is located at a small outdoor kiosk called AristoCrêpes. This tiny (and I mean really tiny) spot is situated in the Marketplace section of Disney Springs at the farthest end of the over-the-water walkway connecting the Marketplace to the Town Center section of Disney Springs. If the name AristoCrêpes sounds familiar, you are right! Subtle details in the decor are a homage to the classic Disney movie – The Aristocats – which was set in the early 20th century Paris, France. Blending French street food with Disney is a perfect match. Marie, Toulouse, Belioz and even The Duchess would approve!
With more and more restaurants opening in 2018 at Disney Springs, the variety of options are endless. This is a good and bad problem to have. GOOD because guests have so many options to choose from. The day I tried the beef crêpe, my husband and daughter were craving pizza. So, we parted ways, grabbed a lunch of our choosing, and found an outdoor cafe-style table overlooking the springs. Also – BAD because there are so many options to choose from! How do you really choose?
Why try it?
Even with all the stiff competition … the beef crêpe is still worth a visit in Disney Springs. Made to order, the crêpe is thin but perfectly cooked to hold the hefty contents of savory meat, cheese, and veggie. I was delightfully surprised by the meat, which is a rich and tender steak that is lightly chopped. It can best be compared to the steak filling of a classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. That first bite is pure bliss. Warm, chewy crêpe with subtle wheat flavor and tenderized steak. The crisp spinach is hearty and provides a nice, fresh, crunch which balances the otherwise rich ingredients. Finally, the sharp cheddar and horseradish cream offer a slight tangy bite. I am normally not a fan of horseradish, but this version reminded me more of light mayo with a slight aromatic kick.
What do you think about the options in Disney Springs? Will you try the beef crêpe on your next visit or stick to your favorites? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
