Everything you Need to Know About the Alice in Wonderland Attraction
Tumble down the rabbit hole and enter the whimsical world of Wonderland. Here is everything you need to know about the Alice in Wonderland attraction at Disneyland in California.
Disney’s animated film Alice in Wonderland was released in 1951. The ride was based on the movie and made its premiere in Fantasyland in June of 1958. In 1984, the attraction had a makeover and made some major improvements. The painted cut-outs of the original ride were replaced with more lively three-dimensional sculpted characters. Also added to the ride were more special effects and new lighting equipment. A couple of years, ago, new animatronics and video displays were incorporated into the ride, making it even more dynamic. What makes the Alice in Wonderland attraction truly unique is that it can only be found at Disneyland, no other Disney park in the world has this ride!
Hop into a vehicle shaped like a caterpillar and follow Alice’s journey through the realm of utter nonsense. You will be sure to recognize some familiar faces and places along the way. The ride gives the impression to guests that they are actually falling down the rabbit hole. With Pieces of furniture, picture frames, and vases flying by, you will feel like you are actually falling down the tunnel.
Pass the talking doorknob and you’re in Wonderland. The twins, Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are the first to greet you into this crazy world as the White Rabbit rushes by, worrying about his lateness, with Alice chasing after him. Swing past the singing flowers in the golden afternoon. See if you can spot the interesting wildlife of Wonderland, like the Tiger Lily and Dandy-Lion and even the Rocking-Horsefly fluttering around.
Next, you will get lost in the dark Tulgey Wood with neon signs pointing in every direction. You and Alice will have to ask Cheshire Cat for directions. But that depends on where you want to get to, as that grinning feline would say. Amble through the Queen’s hedge maze as her guards paint the white roses red. Watch out, the Queen of Hearts has quite the temper. While she yells “Off with their heads”, her army of playing cards will try to chase you out of Wonderland!
After you’ve escaped from the Queen with Alice, you will find yourself a guest at the Mad Hatter’s Mad Tea Party. The festivities are a burst of color and fun with a menagerie of steaming tea pots and tea cups of all shapes and sizes. The Mad Hatter and March Hare will sing “A Very Merry UnBirthday” to you. The ride concludes with a grand finale. There’s a giant unbirthday cake served at the party with a dynamite candle. Uh oh! The White Rabbit ducks as the cake explodes and the caterpillar vehicles find themselves back to where they began.
The fun in Wonderland doesn’t stop there. Right next to the Alice in Wonderland attraction is the Mad Tea Party. Go for a whirl in those iconic spinning tea cups. This ride was inspired by the Mad Hatter and his tea party. The pastel colored cups with take you on a dizzying ride.
