Tasty Treat: Holiday Yule Log
With only a short time before Christmas, I decided to showcase a treat that “Yule” really enjoy! Today, we are featuring a seasonal Tasty Treat from Walt Disney World that is exclusive to the season – the Holiday Yule Log!
What is it?
A “Yule Log” (or bûche de Noël) is a traditional dessert served near Christmas, especially in Belgium and France. The dessert is traditionally a form of sweet roulade, made of sponge cake and formed to resemble a log.
Chocolate fans will likely prefer Disney’s flourless chocolate sponge cake which is rolled with chocolate mousse and covered with chocolate ganache. This tasty treat features edible holiday-themed white chocolate art that is detailed with images of Chip ’n’ Dale and Donald Duck.
For white chocolate fans, a less traditional option will tempt your taste buds. A very thin layer of chocolate flourless sponge cake is topped with a dollop of raspberry mousse, white chocolate mousse and then covered with a red jelly glaze. This tasty treat also includes white chocolate art themed with darling pictures of Santa Mickey and Mrs. Claus Minnie.
Why try it?
With edible art and a perfect roll of mousse and cake, both Yule Logs are arguably one of the prettiest dessert treats offered at the Disney theme parks. They are almost too cute to eat and are definitely Instagram worthy! Not only are these Yule Logs pretty, but they taste good, too.
On my most recent visit to Walt Disney World, I ventured out of my chocolate comfort zone and tried the white chocolate version. Not only is this dessert super cute and colorful, but the flavors are spot on perfect. The classic pairing of raspberry and white chocolate is expected, but memorable and interesting. The raspberry flavor is natural and slightly tart which nicely compliments the sweet white chocolate mousse.
Both mousses were soft and could easily fall apart on their own. The base of chocolate sponge cake is dense enough to hold the mousse without detracting from its delicate texture. Finally, the jelly glaze topping bonds mousse and cake, making this dessert easy to eat on the go.
We much enjoyed snacking on this Tasty Treat while waiting for other holiday events to occur in Magic Kingdom. Although I prefer the white chocolate version for its uniqueness, the chocolate Yule Log is also delicious and well worth a spot on my list. For those who love chocolate, this is also a definite winner!
Where can I find it?
Both Yule Logs are holiday treats created especially for Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World. You can find these Tasty Treats exclusively during the party until December 22nd at Main Street Bakery or Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe.
This hard-ticketed event is filled with seasonal magic including a Christmastime Parade that smells like fresh baked cookies and woodland pine, falling snow on Main Street, fireworks that burst with holiday cheer, unique character meet-n-greets, and even good ole’ Saint Nick! So, don’t delay … there may still be tickets available for this week’s parties if you act fast!
