Everything You Need to Know About the Disneyland Candy Canes
The holiday season has come upon us once more and with it comes Disneyland’s seasonal treats. From Yule Logs to Apple Pie Cotton Candy, Disneyland has plenty of sweets for those wanting a little extra holiday magic. But there is one tempestuous treat that stands above the rest: the Disneyland candy canes. Since 1968, the Disneyland candy cane has become a holiday legend.
A limited number of them are made on certain days every holiday season. When they’re made, the candy canes sell out before lunchtime and guests need to stand on two lines to buy one. But what makes these candy canes so unique?
They’re homemade
Most candy factories make candy canes by machine. Disneyland continues to take the old fashion approach. It takes two hours for the candy artisans at the Candy Palace and the Trolley Treats to make one batch of candy canes. You can even watch the candy masters at work through the glass windows.
They’re fresh
These candy canes are the freshest you can get. They’re made in-house the day they’re available for purchase. The candy makers go to work as early as five in the morning to make sure the candy canes are available for the guests. However, Disneyland has confirmed that they do stockpile some candy canes.
It’s impossible to know which day your candy cane was crafted, but it shouldn’t hinder your experience. The fresh taste of the Disneyland candy canes is well known. You wouldn’t know the difference between an hour old and a few days old candy cane. The quality ingredients shine through. They even have a shelf-life of up to a year as long as the packaging isn’t opened.

Few guests get a Disneyland candy cane
Disneyland has never announced how many candy canes are made in each batch. It’s rumored that Disneyland sells anywhere between 135 to 150 candy canes each day. Compare that number to the thousands of people who visit Disneyland daily. It’s easy to see why these treats are hard to come by. If these numbers are accurate, that means less than 4,000 candy canes are made each holiday season.
How do you get one?
You wait. Depending the day, the Candy Palace at Disneyland or the Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure will make the candy canes. They make three separate batches in one day. First thing in the morning, rush over to the location making the candy canes. And I mean rush. Don’t go on any rides or get involved in other distractions.

If other members of your party want their own candy cane, make sure they wait in line with you. You will stand in line and receive a wristband. This wristband will have a return time on it and will allow you to buy ONE candy cane. When your return time comes, return to the confectionery location. They will cut off your wristband and allow you to buy your candy cane. Make sure you return to pick up your candy cane on time. In previous years, Disneyland has sold unclaimed candy canes to other guests.
Is it worth it?
I hate peppermint. I think it tastes foul and the smell of peppermint makes me nauseous. But I want one of these candy canes. I wouldn’t eat it (obviously), but I want it for decoration. Mostly, I want it for the satisfaction of saying that I won the Candy Cane Challenge.

The price is a bit steep. Each candy cane is $12.99. The candy canes are very large and are about a foot long. A single candy cane can satisfy the entire family’s sweet tooth and you’ll have some leftovers.
The worthiness of the Disneyland candy cane comes down to your priorities. How often do you visit Disneyland? If you’re an annual passholder or visit Disneyland often, then try your best to get one. If you don’t come often or you don’t have a lot of time to spend in the parks, don’t waste your precious park time.
There are many other seasonal goodies and attractions to enjoy. Riding the Jingle Cruise or enjoying the holiday parade is more memorable than waiting for a candy cane.
If you’re in dire need of a candy cane but can’t stand the wait, there are candy canes throughout the park. They look identical to the Disneyland candy cane and are much easier to buy. These candy canes are homemade in Florida. They won’t be as fresh as the official Disneyland candy canes, but for most people, they are just as good.
