Tasty Treat Tuesday – “Teylu” Hot Dog
Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday here at Mickey-Blog.com!
We all know that Walt Disney World is known for its iconic eats – popcorn, pretzels, ice cream and even Mickey waf-fles. HOWEVER – did you know that the theme parks are about SO much more than those classic well-loved treats? Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: “Teylu” Hot Dog
As you might know, the Na’vi (Avatar) people have taken center stage in Animal Kingdom with the opening of Pando-ra – The World of Avatar. “Teylu” is actually the name for the main source of protein eaten by the Na’vi. In its literal definition, it is a slightly sweet grub that is usually eaten steamed.
Did I lose you with the word … GRUB? I know, I know! It sounds terrible, right? But things are not always as they seem!
Because we ALL know that Disney would never feed its guests a grub! Instead, those creative Imagineers at Dis-ney found a way to make the Na’vi “Teylu” into something that theme park guests would recognize and love! So, let’s find out why the “Teylu” hot dog is worth a spot on the Tasty Treat Tuesday list!
What is it?
An all-beef hot dog wrapped in a Parker House style dough.
Why try it?
Hot dogs are one of the classic all-American foods that kids and adults love. However, it is extremely challenging to elevate a hot dog or distinguish it from its competitors. When trying to create a unique hot dog offering, most change up the toppings or add a few poppy seeds to a standard bun. However, the “Teylu” hot dog is an interest-ing spin on a hot dog that is completely unique!
First, the all-beef hotdog is high quality and hearty and one of the best in Walt Disney World. The beef flavor is fra-grant and salty with a perfect ground texture and an easy snap from the casing. However, what distinguishes the “Teylu” hot dog from its competition is the unique Parker House dough bun. Parker House dough is typically made with milk and results in a soft and buttery interior with a crisp, golden exterior. It is served slightly warm and wrapped around the hot dog with a perfectly balanced ratio of dough vs protein.
I can best describe the “Teylu” as a hot dog that married a pig in a blanket and had a baby! Yes, crazy, I know. But so SO tasty!
Where can I find it?
The “Teylu” hot dog can be found at Satu’li Canteen, Ani-mal Kingdom’s newest quick service location within Pando-ra – The World of Avatar. It is actually listed on the Kid’s Menu, but the portion size is large enough for an adult. In addition to being one of the few air conditioned (yay!) quick service spots in Animal Kingdom, Satu’li has a menu that is quite adventurous by theme park standards. Those willing to give Satu’li Canteen a try will be surprised and pleased with the fresh, flavorful, and healthful options featured throughout the menu. I will be featuring a few more Tasty Treats from Satu’li Canteen in future posts. And some of those are … I’ll just say it now … next level bonkers! Stay tuned for more Tasty Treat Tuesday picks from this quick service spot which has become one of my new favorite eats and treats locations at Walt Disney World!
