Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday here at MickeyBlog.com!
We all know that Walt Disney World is known for its iconic eats – popcorn, pretzels, ice cream and even Mickey waffles. Every Disney vacation, I immediately head to the nearest quick service spot and grab my favorite classic treat – The Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar. The rich dark chocolate shell wrapped around soft vanilla ice cream is the perfect start to my vacation! Magic starts with that first bite!
HOWEVER – did you know that the theme parks are about SO much more than those classic well-loved treats? Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Zebra Domes
Today, we are going to discuss a tasty treat which is a bit controversial. Eek! These treats are often the subject of much heated discussion.
What is it?
A Zebra Dome is a sweet layered confection of thin white cake topped with a dome of Amarula Liquor mousse. It is then coated with white chocolate ganache and drizzled with dark chocolate to create a striped zebra pattern on its outer shell.
Why try it?
Zebra Domes are a creation that is unique and exclusive to Walt Disney World. These tiny tasty treats packs a punch and Walt Disney World is the only spot in the world where you can try these tasty treats. The concept is simple … a small moist cake topped with sweet mousse and the added snap of a perfectly tempered chocolate coating. The key player in this dessert is the Amarula liquor added to the mousse. Made from the South African fruit, Marula, this cream based liquor has hints of citrus, vanilla, chocolate and caramel. You either love it or loathe it. I, personally, love it!
Where can I find it?
Zebra Domes can be found at the table service restaurant, Boma, located in Animal Kingdom Lodge. Boma is one of my absolute favorite restaurants for its approachable African cuisine. It is a buffet-style experience which offers a variety of food options including Coconut-Chicken-Curry Soup, Roasted Meats, Bobotie, Couscous, Spiced Sweet Potatoes and a variety of sweets. I love the adventurous spirit of the food which remains family-friendly for even the most timid palates. If you don’t like what you try the first time, leave your plate at the table and find something new from the plethora of offerings! It’s a great way to explore African cuisine for the first time! Boma is a table service restaurant and advanced dining reservations are strongly recommended. For those looking to try Zebra Domes a la carte, you can often spot them at Mara, Animal Kingdom Lodge’s quick service location.
Have you tried these yet? If not, stop on by Boma and let me know what you think of Zebra Domes!
