Anyone potentially exposed to measles at Disneyland should contact a health care provider if you have not been immunized. Los Angeles County health officials are doing whatever they can to raise awareness of exposure to avoid a similar outbreak to the one tied to a theme park in Anaheim back in 2014 which saw more than 100 people infected by the virus. Accord to a report in the Orange County Register, during that time 131 people became infected in California. As a result, a California Vaccine Law was passed closing a loophole that allowed families to opt-out of immunization laws that conflicted with their personal beliefs.
Measles is experiencing a bit of a resurgence with L.A. Country reporting 30-19 infections this year among county residents and 11 additional cases among visitors to the area.
As always, health officials advise residents to get the measles immunization to protect yourselves and to prevent the spread of the highly contagious virus. Measles is spread not only by direct contact but also through the air by coughing or sneezing.
