12 Disney Dog Names Perfect For Your New Pup
I’ve spent enough time in Disney Facebook Groups to know that a popular topic is helping owners come up with fun Disney-inspired names for that special new puppy!
That’s why we here at MickeyBlog thought we’d give you a helping hand with our list of 12 names perfect for that special canine in your life!
Pluto
We’ll start our list with Mickey’s trusted canine companion. But did you know that Pluto was almost named Rover? That was his original name when he made his debut in The Chain Gang which came out all the way back in 1930. The name Pluto was given to him in honor of the newly discovered planet. Pluto was discovered on February 18, 1930.
Max
Max is already a popular name for pups, but as a reminder of Prince Eric’s cuddly canine in The Little Mermaid it is tops in our (Disney) book!
Lady
This prim and proper pup was actually inspired by Disney artist Joe Grant’s very own puppy – an English Springer Spaniel. Walt apparently noticed Grant’s sketches of his dog and asked him to come up with a storyboard. The rest as we say is history…
Nana
Awww, Nana! She’s part childminder, part man’s best friend and a big personality in the Darling household. J.M. Barrie originally wrote about her as a Newfoundland Dog. However, in Disney’s animated version of Peter Pan she was switched to a St. Bernard.
Bolt
Toby
You may remember Toby as the Basset Hound in Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective. He’s been a popular pup name for decades now and is currently ranked number 13 for dog names in 2019.
Bruno
You’ll know as one of the many creatures absolutely smitten with Cinderella! In the animated film of the same name Bruno is depicted as a Bloodhound but we think this moniker would suit just a wide variety of loyal pups.
Pongo
You’ll know him as one of the loveable 101 Dalmations and he’s also made a few other appearances in Disney films over the years! We can’t think of a better name for a devoted member of the family!
Slinky
We love the playful spirit of Slinky Dog, one of Andy’s favorite toys and a regular in Pixar’s Toy Story films. This Dachsund with a slinky middle is the perfect name for your Doxie or any other long wiggly pup!
Dug
Squirrel! As Russell’s faithful friend in the Pixar film Up! Dug definitely steals the show! If you’re getting a pup with a showboat personality try this name on for size! Dug was a Golden Retriever in the film but any curious critter can wear the moniker with pride!
Copper
A whole generation of kids fell in love with this playful fella when he announced: “I’m a houuuuunnnd dog!” Cooper was actually a Bloodhound/Coonhound mix but the name suits any dog that values friendship as much as this pup did.
Tito
No list of dog names would be complete without paying tribute to this fiery pup from Oliver & Company. Tito was fierce, flirtatious and voiced by Cheeck Marin. As a Chihuahua, he’s a little pet with a big personality. How many of you remember that his full name is Ignacio Alonzo Julio Frederico de Tito!?
If you’re going to be the proud owner of a new puppy we hope we’ve provided you with a bit of inspiration when it comes to picking out the perfect Disney name!
