Vancouver Flash Mob Celebrates The Lion King
Having spent some of the most special moments of my professional life within a stone’s throw of Stanley Park, my first thoughts when I saw this flash mob video was, “Only in Vancouver…”
Sure, flash mobs are really nothing new; however, flash mobs celebrating The Lion King — beginning in a subway — well, that’s pretty unique, even for Canada.
Vancouver: Lion King Flash Mob
Vincent Plana of Daily Hive (Vancouver) explained:
Just when you thought you couldn’t be more excited about the new Lion King movie.
Over the past weekend, commuters, tourists, and families around Vancouver were treated to several epic flash mobs.
The performances were part of a special campaign between the YVR Pop Choir and Walt Disney Studios Canada and saw members take to the Expo Line, the Olympic Cauldron, and Granville Island, amongst other locations.
All The Way From Vancouver, BC
Walt Disney Studios Canada posted:
To celebrate the release of Disney’s The Lion King, fans in Vancouver were surprised and delighted by energetic flash-mob style performances throughout the Lower Mainland from YVR POP CHOIR.
Pro tip: Vancouver might be the only place in North America where you won’t get beat up singing loudly on the subway. New York, Los Angeles, Boston – just put on your headphones and hum.
Er, Um Make that, “Only in Vancouver and Toronto…”
I stand corrected.
Another post from Walt Disney Studios Canada:
To celebrate the release of Disney’s The Lion King, the Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir wowed crowds in downtown Toronto by performing iconic songs from the film from the top of a double-decker bus. See Disney’s The Lion King in theatres now.
Overtime
Speaking of Boston, I mentioned that Vancouver was very special to me. The photographic evidence below should clue you in as to why:

Yep. Before Disney and Star Wars became my beat, I followed the NHL’s Boston Bruins for the better part of seven seasons (and the 2010 Winter Olympics and the 2011 Stanley Cup Final).
When you wish upon a star, indeed!
Incidentally, I can’t recommend a trip to British Columbia, enough.
BTW: Disney fans, if you watch closely, you can follow Tron: Legacy’s Sam Flynn through the streets of Vancouver. Remember that when you re-watch before the Tron coaster debuts!
