The Star Wars Show Introduces Sith Troopers
Almost every week, “The Star Wars Show” is a treasure trove of information wrapped up in an entertaining, award-winning package. Today, Andi, Anthony, and the Lucasfilm crew introduced much of their audience to “Sith Troopers.”
Welcome: Sith Troopers
The official Star Wars YouTube account teased:
This week on The Star Wars Show, we check out some of the Star Wars exclusives and events coming to San Diego Comic-Con, including how attendees will get a first look at the brand new Sith trooper from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Plus, Andi sits down with author Justina Ireland to talk Lando and Ewoks.
Then, my favorite Star Wars analysts over at Star Wars Explained broke down what they saw in this new trooper design:
Finally, StarWars.com brought the info, as well:
At San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Lucasfilm will celebrate the history of stormtrooper design — and the future.
Fans attending the mega pop-culture event (July 18-21) will be treated to a new exhibit of trooper armor from across the Star Wars saga, including a first look at the next evolution in Imperial/First Order soldiers: the “Sith trooper” from the upcoming Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It’s a modern and more menacing look befitting its namesake.
“It has some really unique aesthetics to it,” says Madlyn Burkert, Lucasfilm archivist, who is co-producing the exhibit. “And it has some subtle ties to previous stormtrooper designs, which I think fans will enjoy discovering.” There will be a selection of new “Early Release Edition” Sith trooper products debuting at SDCC, [some of] which you can see below.

Consistent Malice
Much like R2D2 and C3PO, stormtroopers (or clone troopers) are a regular presence in the Star Wars galaxy.
So, it makes sense that we’d see a new version of footsoldier in The Rise of Skywalker. But, truthfully, the presence of “Sith” troopers seem to create more questions about the nature of the ninth movie. As Star Wars Explained asked, who do these guys serve? Especially since Kylo specifically mentioned the Jedi and the Sith as part of the past; “Kill it if you have to…”
That said, how cool are they?!
As an OG kind of guy, I would say that the original versions from Star Wars: A New Hope always said “bad guy” to me. And while every variation has been intriguing to me, I harken back to my “old friends” on the Death Star.
However, taken as a clue from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the red “Sith Troopers” are a welcome addition to the canon.
But what do you think? Are you intrigued by the Sith Troopers? Let us know in the comments below…
