Aulani Debuts Two New Programs Offering Up-Close Encounters With Marine Life
One of the highlights of a visit to Disney’s Hawaiian hideaway- Aulani is checking out the incredible creatures that call the Rainbow Reef snorkelling lagoon home. Brimming with reef fish, guests staying at Aulani now have the opportunity to get up close with some of the colorful marine life through two new programs developed by the resort.
Let’s take a look at each!:
Underwater Explorers
This is the perfect experience for guests looking to give scuba diving a try and doesn’t require scuba-certification. During this two-hour experience, guests will start with a 25-minute lesson learning the basics of scuba equipment and safety procedures. Visitors will then have an opportunity to practice your new-found dive skills with a free swim through the tranquil waters of the Rainbow Reef. During your dive, you’ll encounter beautiful marine life including butterflyfish, angelfish, surgeonfish and tangs. Also, be on the lookout for one of Aulani’s hidden Menehune (men-neh-HOO-nay).
Because Rainbow Reef is a man-made lagoon, it offers a safe, high-visibility environment where you can dive without unpredictable waves or currents. Underwater Explorers is ideal for scuba beginners, ages 10 and up. Included in the experience are the use of mask, fins and a wetsuit, a complimentary flask and Rainbow Reef fish ID card (pictured above) to take home and a video of your experience. Cost for the Underwater Explorers program is $189.00 per person, plus tax.
Rainbow Reef Fish Feeding Experience
This new offering is a fun way for you to learn about the many tropical fish who call the Hawaiian waters home. Aulani’s team of animal programs biologists start with a brief introduction of the fish you’ll find in Rainbow Reef. You’ll learn about the differences between the many species of fish and what they eat. For example, some are herbivores, some are carnivores and some are omnivores–wow!
After learning about these beautiful underwater creatures, guests will have a chance to feed the fish while standing on the Rainbow Reef walkway. The fish feeding experience is about 15 minutes and costs $7 per person.
