10 Must-Try Experiences at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
Well, it’s official! All of those months of dreaming, hoping and watching construction videos is over. Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens this weekend at Disneyland Resort. If you’re lucky enough to have a reservation to visit this dazzling new land then you are in for a very special treat! To help you make the most of your time in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, we here at MickeyBlog have assembled a list of 10 Out-Of-This-World experiences that you’ll want to try out!
Hop on Board the Millenium Falcon in Smugglers Run
The moment Star Wars fans of all ages have dreamed about is finally here! Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run puts you behind the wheel of the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy!” You can choose your role with options including pilot, gunner, or flight engineer on a mission to deliver smuggled goods and avoid trouble! Asa Kalama an Imagineer with Disney had this to say about the first-of-it’s kind experience guests will get during Smugglers run, “The level of guest participation in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is different from anything we’ve done before. You’re not merely a passenger along for a ride, but rather the protagonist of the adventure. The story unfolds around you and responds to the way you engage it.
Try Some Blue Milk
Ever since you first saw Luke Skywalker down a glass of blue milk all the way back in 1977’s A New Hope, fans have been imagining what this exotic beverage tastes like. Now you can try it out for yourself. Be on the lookout for the aptly titled The Milk Stand at Black Spire Outpost which offers both blue and green varieties (which you’ll remember from The Last Jedi.) Here at MickeyBlog we can tell you that these tasty frozen beverages are perfect for sipping and have almost a fruity taste!
Customize Your Own Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop
Disney collectors or just those looking for the perfect souvenir of your voyage to Batuu will want to stop at Savi’s for a very important Jedi rite of passage – constructing your own lightsaber. Visitors to Savi’s Workshop will feel the presence of the Force the minute you walk through the door. You can truly make this weapon your own with various hilts, decor and of course kyber crystals to choose from. Chris Beatty, Executive Creative Director of Walt Disney Imagineering had this to say of the experience, . “Savi’s Workshop is part interactive experience, part show, and part retail. It’s what I think we do best when all of our lines of business—merchandise, story, special effects, entertainment, and so many more—come to the table and we craft an experience together. We’re excited because you actually build the lightsaber you’ve always wanted, crafting it uniquely for you, one of a kind.”
Fuel Up at Ronto Roasters
With its huge podracing engine hanging overhead or the former smelter droid that is turning a spit of meats, Ronto Roasters is one of the most unusual places to grab a bite at Black Spire Outpost. This marketplace stall offers delicious Ronto Wraps as well as sweet-or-spice Nuna Turkey Jerkey as well as a colorful array of speciality beverages!
Be On the Lookout for Characters from Star Wars
At Black Spire Outpost you never know who may be just around the corner so it’s important to keep your eyes peeled. You may bump into members of the Resistance or agents of the First Order. Supreme Leader Kylo Ren also lands at Black Spire Outpost with his legions of Stormtroopers to help him hunt for Resistance fighter Ray. We’ve also heard a rumor that Millenium Falcon co-pilot Chewbacca, as well as Resistance spy Vi Moradi, may also be in residence.
Hack Your Way Through Your Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Visit With the Play Disney Parks App
Be sure to have your smartphones at the ready to unlock a whole new level of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge fun using the Play Disney Parks App. With the app guests can scan the contents hidden inside containers, translate languages, hack into droids and door panels and eavesdrop on local communications.
Stop by Oga’s Cantina for Drink and Out-of-This-World Entertainment
This intergalactic watering hole is the heart of Black Spire Outpost. And trust me when I say it’s full of lore. Even the blaster-bolt scorches on the walls tell a story. During a visit here guests can share your tales from around the galaxy as you enjoy exotic beverages served in unique vessels as you listen to entertainment from DJ R-3X (who you may know as the former droid pilot from Star Tours in Tomorrowland.) “Our goal was to create a place so authentic—so real—that when our guests step inside, they feel like they’re in a Star Wars movie. To do this, we had to partner with the team at Lucasfilm in bringing these films to life,” Beatty says. “Together, Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm have crafted a place that is going to amaze our guests—a place they’ve never seen before.”
Dress the Part with Finds from the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace
Black Spire Outpost Marketplace is an absolute treasure trove of Star Wars goodies. Here you can buy authentic Batuuan attire at Black Spire Outfitters, start a collection of rare artifacts at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities or peek into the cages at the Creature Stall. There are also lots of details worth exploring along the marketplace’s twisting pathway.
Build Your Very Own Droid at the Droid Depot
As any Star Wars fan will tell you droids can be some of the most loyal companions in the entire galaxy. Just look at R2-D2 and BB-8. Now guests will have the opportunity to build and customize your own astromech friends at the Droid Depot. Visitors can pick pieces and parts off a conveyor belt two construct two core models (R-series or BB- series.) To make it even better these droids can even interact with elements throughout the new land!
Help the First Order or the Resistance Gain Control of the Outpost
What side will you choose? Using the Play Disney Parks mobile app, guests can play together using a game called “Outpost Control” that takes place across the Galaxy’s Edge. Guests can choose to support either the Resistance or the First Order by hacking the blinking light panels next to doorways throughout Black Spire Outpost. The faction that controls the majority of these panels first wins the game and proves their allegiance to their side’s cause. The conflict will play out several times throughout the day.
