The New Tron Attraction Construction Update for January 2019
A quick ride on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority has given us a pretty good view of the Tron attraction construction. t has been about a year and a half since Disney announced the new attraction would be coming to Magic Kingdom Park.
Tomorrowland’s Tron Attraction
Based on the most popular attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, the Tron coaster will be the newest addition to Tomorrowland. Set right beside the beloved Space Mountain attraction, Tron will feature a high-tech universe perfectly suited for Tomorrowland.
The TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction at Shanghai Disneyland features a coaster where riders board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles. Lights, energy, and excitement make it one of the most thrilling rides at any Disney Park.
Pardon the Pixie Dust
During the construction phase, a few classic attractions have been affected including the Walt Disney World Railroad and Tomorrowland Speedway. Both attractions are not operating at this time due to the work taking place on the Tron attraction.
However, the Walt Disney World Railroad has an engine and passenger cars parked at the front entry station. Guests are welcome to head up to the engine for pictures (and maybe even a chance to ring the bell). This is the closest most folks will come to the engineer’s cabin, so don’t miss out on an up-close look at this Disney World classic.
Opening Date
At this time, we do not have an official opening date. However, Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, announced that the plan is to have construction wrapped up in time for Disney World’s 50th Anniversary in 2021.
Check out the video of the current construction.
