Take Flight At Walt Disney World With These 10 Fun Bird-Themed Activities
Today is National Bird Day, and we here at MickeyBlog thought what better way to celebrate than by counting down some of our favorite ways to mingle with the many feathered friends you’ll find at Walt Disney World. From attractions and meet and greets to dazzling entertainment and dance parties, it’s true that Disney World has gone to the birds (in the best of ways of course!) Check out our list:
1. Rope Drop at Animal Kingdom
Plan on arriving at Animal Kingdom early to check out a very special rope drop ceremony. Each morning when the theme park opens, guests gather near the Tree of Life. To officially open the park the many feathered friends that call the Animal Kingdom home will give visitors an aerial show that you’ll never forget!
2. Meet Daisy Duck at Magic Kingdom
If you love Daisy as much as we do then you’ll want to head on over to Pete’s Silly Sideshow in Magic Kingdom. Each of the characters here are dressed up for a day at the circus including Daisy who plays the part of a mysterious fortune teller. Donald is also on hand as a snake charmer. Both make for the perfect photo op!
3. Escape to Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
This classic Disney attraction has gained a cult following and it’s easy to understand way. Guests can get out of the heat and sing along with a lively menagerie of exotic birds. The attraction is a wonderful example of Disney’s Audio-Animatronics and is an absolute feast for your eyes and ears,
4. Shake Your Tailfeather at Donald’s Dino Bash
This family-friendly street party launched this Summer at Animal Kingdom and quickly won over fans of all ages with its colorful costumes and fun hijinks! Donald Duck recently learned that his ancestors were descended from dinosaurs. To celebrate he decided to take over and decorate DinoLand and host a party for all ages. On hand is an array of some of your favorite Disney friends including Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Launchpad McQuack, Scrooge and Chip n’ Dale.
5. Don’t Miss Up! A Great Bird Adventure
Join Russell and Dug from Pixar’s UP! for this exciting new show which debuted at Animal Kingdom in 2018. Led by a senior Wilderness Explorer, this birding-experience features a close up look at various species from around the world including a marabou stork which has a 10-foot wingspan. This offering takes place at various times throughout the day.
6. Sunbathe Near the Flamboyance of Flamingos at Animal Kingdom Lodge
At Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, guests hanging out near the central pool area can catch a glimpse of these beautiful birds at Jambo House. Be sure to pick up a resort activity calendar for a list of educational flamingo activities happening throughout the day.
7. Get a History Lesson from Sam Eagle
Muppet fans won’t want to miss a chance to check out Sam Eagle and his cohorts during The Muppets Present…Great Moments in American History at Magic Kingdom . We can’t think of a better feathered-friend to guide visitors on a comical journey through some of our nation’s most important historical moments. The show takes place several times throughout the day just next to the Hall of Presidents in Liberty Square.
8. Help The Three Caballeros
Visitors to Epcot will definitely want to stop by the Mexican Pavilion in the World Showcase to help José Carioca and Panchito to find Donald Duck. Guests float along to live-action footage of the people and place of Mexico inspired by the 1944 Disney film The Three Caballeros. Visitors join Panchito a Mexican charro rooster and José Carioca, the Brazilian parrot, for hilarity and hijinks as they search for Donald. Will they find him in time for the big finale in Mexico City?
9. Fly Over to Festival of the Lion King
All of the creatures of the kingdom come out to frolic during this magical retelling of Disney’s much-loved film The Lion King. However one of our favorite moments has to be the beautiful scene with two “love birds” during the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” number. It is nothing short of awe-inspiring. 10. Meet Kevin at Animal Kingdom
Kevin, the exotic bird from Pixar’s UP! will be moving to Disney’s Animal Kingdom sometime next month. Guests will be able to meet and have their pictures taken with this beautiful bird when he is in residence.
