Sleeping Beauty Castle Gets Makeover
Beginning on January 7th, Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle will get a much-needed makeover. She’s getting ready for the debut of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opening this summer.
According to Anaheim building permits, the budget of $300,000 will be used to reroof the Castle and replace the fiber-reinforced plastic on the turrets. Scaffolding surrounding portions of the castle will be covered with a decorative scrim for aesthetic purposes. The standard refurbishment will not change the castle significantly.
“Sleeping Beauty Castle is the heart of Disneyland Park and is simply being refreshed,” said Walt Disney Imagineering art director Kim Irvine via email. “It will remain the same beloved icon it is today when the refurbishment is complete.”
The work will force the closure of the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough attraction starting Jan. 17.
The refurbishment is supposed to extend through the spring.
