Top 3 Ways to Celebrate New Year’s Eve Outside Magic Kingdom
I’ve yet to do it, but I’ve heard what I can best describe as horror stories from friends who have visited Magic Kingdom on New Year’s Eve. Descriptions of loud, pushy people who succeeded in making an impassible wall on Main Street succeeded in possibly forever putting me off from NYE in MK. If you’re on the same page as me, you’re probably searching for the perfect alternative to the bedlam that I’ve just described…
Have no fear, MickeyBlog is here! If you hadn’t already guessed from my loving description of the loud crowds, I do not enjoy being shoved by masses moving through the streets. I get enough of that back home! I’ve branched out beyond Magic Kingdom gates on New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World and returned home with great memories! Here are my top three things to do on New Year’s Eve at Walt Disney World Resort:
3) Illuminations’ Final Holiday Performance
Perfect for: Friends
On NYE, Illuminations launches early. Promptly at 6:30pm, the skies above Seven Seas Lagoon will burst to life in thousands of pyrotechnic lights! My two tips for experiencing the show on New Year’s Eve are as follows: get a drink, get a spot. Early.
Yes, Magic Kingdom will be the Park that draws the biggest crowds, but Epcot will be FAR from empty on NYE. In addition to it being a holiday, this is one of the final times Illuminations will be performed with the Holiday Tag before the show is permanently retired next year.
Because of that, here will be an even larger influx in popularity. My favorite way to experience the show is by stopping into Rose and Crown Pub well ahead of the show, ordering a drink or two to go, and snagging a great spot along the lagoon!
2)The Edison and Characters in Flight
Perfect for: Couples
The Edison is one of the newer restaurants to open in the seemingly everlasting Disney Springs construction. Set in prohibition-era America, the glitzy and glittery décor pair brilliantly with the extensive, 1920’s inspired entertainment! Pull up a seat at the romantic bar situated below lighting fixtures that sparkle on the 35-foot ceilings.
After you’ve eaten and drunk 2018’s woes and worries away at The Edison, it’s time to take flight! Send off 2018 by taking a balloon ride high above Walt Disney World Property! If you time it right, the sunset balloon flights are truly magical and are a great way to cuddle up with your sweetie to ring in the New Year!
1) Geyser Point and The Cabins
Perfect for: Families
Geyser Point Bar and Grill is my favorite lounge on Property. No matter the day, no matter the time, the picturesque open-air bar is surrounded by patio seating that overlooks the peacefully glistening Bay Lake. There is rarely a long wait for a table, and for a lounge, the food is the best I’ve had on Property! If you’re over 21, their cocktails, beer, and wine lists will definitely satisfy anyone who’s thirsty.
After your dinner, take a short walk passing the famous geyser, the boat docks, and the pool before ending your evening. There is a secret going around out there that you can catch a pretty good glimpse of Magic Kingdom fireworks near the Vacation Club cabins. If you just can’t imagine a NYE without pyrotechnics, this is likely to be the least crowded of the Resorts’ viewing locations…and you don’t even have to board a monorail to get there!
Now that you’ve seen your options, it’s decision time! Which option would you choose for your party? Does a NYE Disney Springs date night tickle your fancy? Leave me a comment and let me know what you’d choose!
