Everything You Need to Know About Disney’s Villainous
If you’ve ever dreamt about being a Disney villain, then now is the time to tap into your evil side because there is a new board game in town and it’s goes by the name Villainous! The game was made by Disney and Wonder Forge and allows you to get into the mindset of a Disney Villain and work to beat the heroes of their film.
My family recently purchased the game and it was more complicated than I imagined, but once we got the hang of it, we really enjoyed it.
The Design
The first thing that you notice about the board is the artwork. The box is that famous green color that is incorporated in all Disney villains and it does a good job of giving it that evil vibe. Then you have beautifully sculpted game pieces and amazing pictures for each individual villain.
What the Game is All About
In the game you can have two to six players and each player chooses one of six Disney villains to be. You can choose between Maleficent, Ursula, Jafar, Prince John, Queen of Hearts, and Captain Hook and each villain has their own objective in the game.
Here are the objectives for each character:
Ursula: start your turn with the trident and the crown at Ursula’s lair.
Queen of Hearts: Have a Wicket at each location and successfully take a shot.
Prince John: Start your turn with at least 20 power.
Jafar: Start your turn with the Magic Lamp at Sultan’s Palace and Genie under your control.
Captain Hook: Defeat Peter Pan at the Jolly Roger.
Maleficent: Start your turn with a Curse at each location.
Objective
Because each player has their own objective each player receives their own game board, 2 personal decks of cards, playing piece, and a villain guide. As you play, you’ll move back and forth across your board, drawing cards, and even getting chances to slow down your fellow villain buddies.
For instance, if you’re playing as Jafar you will have palace guards, Iago, and Gazeem as allies and the serpent staff, magic lamp, and swords as items. These will help you achieve your objective and defeat any heroes that are played against you. As Jafar you must unlock the cave of wonders on your game board, play the magic lamp, hypnotize genie with the serpent staff and then move the magic lamp to Sultan’s palace and you win.
No matter which character you choose to play as the game play is similar. The only differences are the actions you take. Every turn you move your player and complete actions that will help you win the game. The actions allow you play cards to your game board that help you destroy heroes and win the game.
The game is slightly confusing at first, but if you can get through the first couple of rounds then the instructions become clearer and you can really start to enjoy the game. There is a dungeons and dragons vibe to the game, so I think it will be a favorite for any detailed game lovers out there.
When my family and I played my brother won and he was Captain Hook. Here is what is winning game board looked like.
