Your Guide To Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge Coming to Disney World and Disneyland in 2019
Earlier this week, we here at MickeyBlog offered our readers a round-up of all of the exciting rides and attractions coming to the theme parks in 2019. If there’s one on the list that has already captured the hearts and minds of Disney fans around the globe it is the opening of the new Star Wars themed lands coming to both Disneyland and Walt Disney World next year.
To get you up to speed on all the excitement that will await visitors to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in 2019 and we thought we’d share what we know so far about this incredible expansion!
What is Galaxy’s Edge?
This is the name given to the new Star Wars themed areas that will open on both coasts in 2019. On the West Coast, Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland theme park. On the East Coast, it will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Guests can expect a wonderfully immersive Star Wars experience with two new attractions, eateries, shopping and more.
When WIll Galaxy’s Edge Open?
Though Disney hasn’t given specific dates for the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, they have said that the Disneyland version will open in the Summer of 2019 with the Walt Disney World version following later in 2019. Readers should keep following along with MickeyBlog for the latest in Galaxy’s Edge updates!
Where is Galaxy’s Edge Set?
With this impressive new land comes an exciting backstory. At Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, guests visit Batuu. This planet is a remote outpost located on the galaxy’s edge (hence the name). Batuu was once a busy crossroads along the old sub-lightspeed trade routes. However, as of late its importance has diminished with the rise of hyperspace travel. It is now home to those who prefer to stay out of the mainstream, making it a bustling port for smugglers, rogue traders and adventurers traveling between the frontier and unchartered space.
Black Spire Outpost
The name of the village that visitors will enjoy on your trip to Batuu is Black Spire Outpost. This is the largest settlement on the planet and is an infamous stop for traders, smugglers and adventurers. The outpost has become a haven for the galaxy’s most colorful characters. This area of Batuu is known for it’s petrified remains of the once towering ancient trees that stand guard across the are! The remains serve as the heart of the outpost.
What Attractions Will Open at Galaxy’s Edge?
Galaxy’s Edge at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort will feature two headlining attractions. Let’s take a quick look at both:
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run – Galaxy’s Edge
This is the moment that Star Wars fans have been waiting for. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run takes guests into the cockpit of this beloved and iconic starship. This new state-of-the-art offering puts guests behind the controls of the Millennium Falcon where you’ll be asked to take on one of three unique flight crew roles.

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – Galaxy’s Edge
The second attraction at Star Wars land is Rise of the Resistance which will put guests in the middle of an epic battle between the Resistance and the First Order. Though little has been revealed about this attraction, Disney has said that guests can expect a high stakes epic Star Wars cliffhanger!

Will there be any eateries in Galaxy’s Edge?
Yes! One of the most popular hangouts at the Black Spire Outpost is Oga’s Cantina. This watering hole is popular amongst pilots, bounty hunters, smugglers, locals and galactic travellers. Run by an intriguing alien named Oga Garra, the Catina serves up famous concoctions created with exotic ingredients and using “otherworldy” methods. They’ll also be served in unique vessels. They’ll be a choice of soft drinks for the kids as well as libations for adults. Musical entertainment will be provided by RX-24 a former StarSpeeder 3000 pilot droid that you may recognize from Star Tours.
What about shopping?
In what is sure to be a dream for Star Wars fans of all ages, the new land will feature an exotic new market perfect for stocking up on authentic Galaxy’s Edge merchandise. In the creation of this new shopping destination, the Imagineers drew their inspiration from the bustling markets of Istanbul and Marrakech. Here guests will be able to explore a rich collection of shops and merchant stalls. We are told that one stall will be overseen by a Toydarian (a creature first encountered on Tatooine in ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’.) Here guests will be able to purchase a range of incredible toys straight out of the Star Wars galaxy.
I’ve heard that there’s going to be a Star Wars hotel opening. Is this true?
Yes. A Star Wars-themed fully immersive resort will be opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort at a later date. Families will board a starship that comes alive with characters and stories from the Star Wars universe that will unfold during your stay. Guests will have the opportunity to look the part with Star Wars themed uniforms and will get the feeling that you are vacationing in the middle of the action with every cabin window boasting a view of space. Visitors opting to stay here will book a multi-day adventure with fun storylines unfolding both at the resort and when you pay a visit to Galaxy’s Edge. The property will feature a range of amenities including a restaurant, lounge and shops!
These are just a handful of the incredible details coming your way regarding Disney’s Star Wars expansions. Readers are encouraged to keep following along with MickeyBlog for the latest Star Wars news and updates.
