Lady and the Tramp Live Action Remake Will Use Real Dogs
The list of Disney’s live action movies is rapidly growing — there’s been Beauty and the Beast (2017), Cinderella (2015) and, Dumbo, which is coming in March. Live action isn’t a new concept. Disney has been releasing live-action versions of their animated movies, since the 1990s, when they started with 101 Dalmations (1996) and The Jungle Book (1994), but many of the films have used CGI to recreate its animals.
The good news is that next year’s live action remake of the 1955 Lady and the Tramp will use real humans and real dogs. In an interview that appeared on Collider, the movie’s Thomas Mann, who plays Lady’s human Jim Dear, said that real dogs will be used in the movie.
“The dogs were there. We shot with the dogs, every day. They were on set and they weren’t even trained. They found these dogs and started training them about three months before. They just wanted to find the perfect dogs. The main dog’s name was Rose, who played Lady,” he said.
It’s still not clear if we are going to hear the voices of the animals or if their mouths will be made to move in post-production. Lady and the Tramp, which is set to be released in October, will also star Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux who are voicing Lady and the Tramp, respectively.
Don’t look for this movie in the theaters though. Although Disney has had tremendous success with its remakes released in theaters — Beauty and the Beast raked in $1.2 billion — Lady and the Tramp is scheduled to be released exclusively on Disney Plus, Disney’s new streaming service to be launched next fall.
