Relive All the Magic from Mickey’s 90th Spectacular!
Did you tune in to Mickey’s 90th Spectacular that aired on ABC this past Sunday or just hoping to relive all the magic like me? If so, keep on reading for all the magical moments during the gala designed to honor the Big Cheese himself -Mickey Mouse!
Fitz and the Tantrums’ “HandClap” got the show off to a roaring start! The opening act featured everything from drummers suspended in the air and dancers wielding illuminated lightsticks with Jedi-worthy technique to Mickey displaying some serious dance moves.
Kristen Bell of “Frozen” fame shares the story of how Mickey began on paper in Walt’s studio and eventually to a pop-culture and “universal friend” during Mickey’s 90th Spectaular.
Sofia Carson performed “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid in a dress that looks like it was meant for a princess.
Zac Brown Band performed a toe-tapping rendition of “The Bare Necessities” from The Jungle Book.
We all were treated to Mickey Mouse playing the drums when he performed a rocking rendition of “Freind Like Me” from Aladdin during Mickey’s 90th Spectacualr.
Love was in the air when Minnie joined Mickey on stage. Following Anna Camp and Skylar Astin share their real-life love story, Minnie came on stage and Mickey told her, “I saved you a seat.” Minnie responded by saying, “There’s no place I’d rather be.” Awwwwww!!
The lovebirds also danced to Tori Kelly’s performance of “Colors of the Wind” from Pochantas during Mickey’s 90th Spectacular.
The crowd got hype when NCT 127 took that stage for a performance of their hit song “Regular”. But things really went to another level when Mickey joined in with the popular K-pop group.
Meghan Trainor and her dad hit the stage to perform “You Got a Friend in Me” from Toy Story during Mickey’s 90th Spectacular. That’s her dad on the piano who she called her “own best friend”.
It was another sweet moment when Josh Gad shared a box full of his Mickey Mouse swag he’s had since childhood including these larger-than-life Mickey ears. He also touched on how he loves sharing his love of Mickey with his two children.
Luis Fonsi of “Despacitio” fame performed his new hit, “Impossible” during Mickey’s 90th Spectacular. During the Grammy-winner’s performance, Mickey donned his yellow sneakers and busted some moves aside Fonsi and his dancers.
Super Mickey fan, John Stamos, shared with the crowd how Mickey is always bringing happiness and inspiration to people around the world including surprise visits to patients in children’s hospitals to whistling while he works alongside Disney VoluntEARS.
Leslie Odom Jr. from Hamilton performed an extra-magical rendition of “When You Wish Upon a Star”.
Another magical moment during Mickey’s 90th Spectacular was when the whole crowd was made honorary members of The Mickey Mouse Club by original Mousekeeters Bob Burgess and Sharon Baird. Sofia Carson was also on had to lead the crowd in singing The Mickey Mouse Club theme song. Not only did the crowd become members of the club, but they also received either a traditional ear hat, with a special print in honor of Mickey’s 90th and ears that light up; or a dazzling gold headband with a detachable black bow!
Dinsey Chairman and CEO, Bog Iger, closed the show along with Daisy, Donald, Pluto, Goofy, Minnie, and the other stars of the evening with a spectacular grand finale featuring Mickey on top of the biggest cake I have ever seen! When the crowd stood for a standing ovation, it was the most magical way to end a ceremony fit for the biggest star of them all, our man, Mickey!
