Disney’s Animal Kingdom Residents Celebrated Halloween With Pumpkins
Halloween is always full of creative costumes, tons of sugary snacks, and of course: pumpkins. Who doesn’t love carving pumpkins and having all sorts of pumpkin treats? Disney’s Animal Kingdom park got in on the pumpkin fun and created some great Halloween fun for the resident animals. Let’s take a look!
Enrichment at Animal Kingdom
Disney’s Animal Kingdom takes great pride in it’s enrichment programs for each animal. Activities such as the pumpkins at Halloween may look like just fun and games, but the reality is this sort of play takes an important role in their day to day routine. Enrichment provides mental and physical tasks that appeal to the animals’ behaviors. Other types of enrichment include unique feeding stations, toys such as balls, boxes, and cubes, as well as different foods that they don’t get in their everyday diet.
What Makes It Exciting For The Animals?
Disney’s animal care team work really hard to come up with new things for the animals. The ultimate goal is to excite and encourage the residents to play and forage, things they would naturally do in the wild. With these Halloween treats, the animal care team added little extras such as bugs, worms, and other tasty eats to further encourage exploring. After discovering the pumpkins in their habitats, some of the animals start to paw and pounce, others dig into snacks, and others shred and smash the gourds within minutes. It’s not only exciting for them to do, it’s also exciting for the care team and guests to watch!
