National Coffee Day is September 29th!
Just in time for the break from this stifling Central Florida heat, National Coffee Day swoops in to give us an excuse to over-indulge on America’s favorite hot beverage: coffee! If you’ve read most of my articles, you’ll know that I’m equally as in love with the food and beverage offerings that are available at Walt Disney World Resort as I am with the Parks themselves. Being the workaholic that I am, coffee has interwoven itself into my daily routine very quietly…I reached a point in college when I was consuming vats of the stuff each and every day!
My (probably very unhealthy) habit has been pared way down since then, but don’t get me wrong for a second, coffee is still a very big part of my daily routine! When I visit Walt Disney World Resort, my mornings start just as early as they do when I’m at home working, so a big cup of java each morning of my trip is a must. I’ve done years of ‘research’ in prep for this article, and I can’t wait to tell you about the best spots to go to to get your caffeine fix on National Coffee Day!
Starbucks
You can get a Starbucks no matter where you’re from, that’s true. But if you’re looking for a strong brew to get you through your mornings at Walt Disney World, the less-potent beans at the resort-wide Joffrey’s locations (more on that later) just won’t do the trick if you prefer a very dark roast like me.
Each of the 4 Theme Parks host a Starbucks inside of their gates, and if you don’t mind waiting for your morning Joe, there really isn’t a better bet for pure, unadulterated coffee than Starbucks. Oh, and the Starbucks/Disney Parks cups are the most adorable to-go cups you’ll ever have the pleasure of drinking from!
Joffrey’s
I know I just accused Joffrey’s of dishing out a weak brew, but hear me out: you don’t come here for regular old black coffee. Mocha lattes, frappes, frozen cappuccino…these are the decadencies that Joffrey’s was made to brew! On first approach, the massively oversized pastries will try to hypnotize and possess you before you order your coffee.
Let your conscience be your guide…and order one! Each and every time I go to Joffrey’s it’s for whatever their seasonal beverage is (like this fantastic s’mores latte I ordered last winter) and pair it with an apple fritter. I hope you have a friend on hand, because you’re going to need them to help you finish that fritter!
The Fountain
Over at The Walt Disney World Dolphin hotel, you’ll find the hotel’s one and only ice cream shop. Why is she sending me to an ice cream shop on National Coffee Day you may ask? Simple…for the coffee/ice cream mash-up of the century; the Fountain Frappuccino!
If you have a hard time choosing an ice cream flavor (I sympathize), this drink does takes the guess work out of the equation by combining chocolate and vanilla ice creams, chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, and of course, one very strong shot of espresso! The whole thing gets brilliantly blended together before receiving a generous swirl of whipped cream.
France Pavilion
The only location at World Showcase that opens at 9am with Future World is the traditional French bakery (Les Halles) serving up breakfast to hungry guests ready to discover Epcot! The breakfast items here are pretty good, and the pastries are very reasonably priced for a Disney Theme Park, but you came for the espresso!
As far as Theme Park espresso goes, this one is very, very good. The fresh grind of the potent beans serve the drink well, as the sweet, freshly-ground scents greet your nose before your tongue gets a chance to join the fun. The espresso goes down very easily and pairs nicely with a croissant. When in Rome…(I mean, France).
Tutto Gusto
I live in a city where everyone suffers from permanent “coffee hand”. It’s a pretty serious condition in which everyone, no matter where you look, and no matter what time of day, has a cup of coffee that is seemingly permanently fixated to their hand.
When I visited my childhood hometown and asked an old friend to meet for coffee after 5pm, I was shocked at her horrified response: “coffee THIS late…how will you ever sleep?!” If you can handle a little caffeine post-12pm, and are over 21 years of age, the Espresso Coffee Martini from Tutto Gusto is a great move! Featuring vanilla vodka, flavor-packed Italian liqueur, and of course espresso, this specialty concoction will definitely provide the evening pick-me-up you’re craving. If it’s from the espresso or the alcohol, I’m still not sure…
Kona Cafe
Let me get this out of the way first: order the Hawaiian sweet rolls…you just can’t go to Kona and NOT eat at least one! Ok, so sweet rolls aside (ORDER THEM) I’m about to drop some little-known information that might shock you: this place has my favorite coffee on Property.
If you immediately thought of sushi and poke when I mentioned Kona, I used to think the same way. Until I ordered a piping hot pot of 100% Kona coffee, straight from the big island in the Pacific! The coffee is dark, the coffee is strong, and the coffee is the freshest I’ve tasted at the Resort, and it tops my list for ‘best coffee’ at Walt Disney World Resort without question!
If you’re going to do it, I say do it right. Order the French press pot for two- and if you’re traveling solo…more for you! Will you give it a try on National Coffee Day? Or will you opt for an offbeat concoction like the shake from The Fountain? Let us know in the comments!
