Disney Life Lessons Help Answer Tough Questions
Every day, we seem to be faced with various problems, questions or situations that sometimes don’t have the easiest answers—or even answers at all. While there’s no escaping certain outcomes and there may be days we’re not happy to hear about the cards we’ve been dealt, there are ways to talk and address those difficult times. With each movie release, Disney life lessons teach us valuable learnings.
Disney Life Lessons
Whether it involves ourselves, those we love or situations out of our control, Disney seems to create relatable scenarios with our favorite characters to help bring to light that we’re not alone and many face the same predicaments we do.
Through Disney life lessons, we’re able to create a safe space to discuss answers to life’s tough questions. Below we review a few important and relatable situations that we see present throughout our most loved Disney stories.
Why Don’t People Listen to Me?
In Disney’s film Moana, the main character Moana is drawn to the ocean. Both her heart and her head tell her that she belongs out on the open water, and it may be her village’s only chance to save both their livelihood and wellbeing. Scared of having their child hurt, Moana’s parents forbid her from entering the water.
It isn’t until too late when the island’s resources are diminished and the island is falling apart, where her parents give her the OK to go out and seek help. One of the many Disney life lessons we learn here, is that you can’t give up. Moana listened to her heart and believed in herself and you should, too.
How to Move Past Losing a Loved One?
Throughout many Disney films, we’re introduced to a family who had lost a loved one (most often, a parent). Many believe this is because Walt Disney himself lost his parents and wanted to reflect this theme in his films. Whether it’s the iconic classic Cinderella or our favorite fishy-film Finding Nemo, the dilemma of losing ones we love is present in many movies.
While it’s of the sadder Disney life lessons, it’s important for everyone—especially children—to know they’re not alone during situations just as these.
Why Do I Feel Sad?
There are some days that we can’t explain why we may feel sadder than usual. Maybe we’re fighting with a friend, bummed with something at work or school, or we may have no specific reason—and that’s okay. One of the important Disney life lessons we learned in the Pixar film, Inside Out touches on this topic.
Sadness is a character we may not always agree with—and she may but a damper on the mood—but as an emotion, Sadness is crucial in Riley’s life and allows her to process obstacles that life throws her way. We also saw how having sadness in Riley’s life also made her happy moments that much more special.
Is it Ok to be Different?
In Disney’s beloved film, Frozen, we learn Elsa is different from everyone else. She has the power to control ice with her hands—whether building beautiful ice castles or creating an intense snow storm. From the time Elsa was a little girl, she was told to conceal her powers and not let them show. Because those she loved told her she couldn’t be who she really was, she never learned to accept herself and things spiraled out of control.
Instead, if Elsa would of learned to accept, embrace, and discover how amazing it is to be herself, the story of Frozen would of ended up very differently. Remember, it’s always OK to be different. So, why not come to a place like Disney where differences are celebrated?
