Día de los Muertos Festivities Will Be Back at Disneyland Resort This Fall
Visitors to Disneyland Resort this Autumn are in for a magical seasonal treat as Disney announced this week that there will be special Día de los Muertos celebrations taking place at both theme parks starting in September.
Disney California Adventure Park –Stop by the Plaza del la Familia where Pixar’s beloved film “Coco” provides the inspiration for this exhibition. Here families can share meaningful memories of loved ones at the interactive Memory Wall. The iconic Mexican Árbol de la Vida (Tree of Life) provides the perfect photo op. New for this year will also be a mask-making craft workshop where you can make a stunning creation that depicts the alebrijle (the colorful spirit guides) from the film “Coco.” There’s also an immersive The World of “Coco” exhibit. Mariachi music will also be performed on the bandstand. Bring your appetites, as well for the delicious Mexican food that will be served up at Paradise Gardens Grill.
But that’s not all! On offer several times throughout the day at Disney California Adventure Park, is a Musical Celebration of Coco which combines the talents of the incredible Storytellers of Plaza de la Familia and the Grammy-award winning Mariachi Divas for a delightful show that combines music and dance to tell the story of Miguel’s journey from “Coco.” New for this year, a troupe of singers and authentic Folklórico dancers will also join up with Miguel in a story style inspired by the Mexican folk art traditions. As your strolling, the grounds of Cars Land also be on the lookout for an ofrenda (remembrance alter) which pays tribute to Doc Hudson from the Cars films!
Disneyland – During the Día de los Muertos festivities, Zocalo Park in Frontierland is adorned with a colorful display. This whimsical setting (pictured above) features beautiful marigolds and papel picado. You’ll also find a traditional ofrenda, calaveras (sugar skulls,) and a figure paying homage to La Catrina. There’s also wonderful Mexican cuisine just next door at Rancho del Zocalo.
These special Día de los Muertos experiences kick off at Disneyland Resort on September 7th and runs through until November 2, 2018.
