Your Guide to Disney Marshmallow Madness
If I don’t spent at least one summer night huddled around a bonfire sharing stories with your friends and family, I would feel like I was missing out on one of the best perks of the season. Sharing stories, cooking hotdogs, drinking lemonade, and watching the wood change color from grainy brown to white-hot volcanic embers is the ultimate picture-perfect night, and if you hand me a stick with a marshmallow to toast, you’d see my eyes light up as brightly as the flames in that fire! It always takes at least 2 showers to eradicate my hair of the smoky smell, but one taste of a warm, gooey, sticky campfire marshmallow makes the extra shampoo cycles totally worth it! Even more so with a Disney marshmallow!
Since I made a move from my hometown to a city with tight quarters, my lack of backyard (and city fire codes) prevent me from sparking up a bonfire. I didn’t miss it all that much until a recent trip to Walt Disney World re-introduced me to my long lost love of campfire marshmallow roasting that both quelled my craving and sent me into a marshmallow-crazed tizzy I’ve yet to snap out of. If you’re visiting Walt Disney World Resort this summer, celebrate one of my favorite summer traditions with these marshmallow-y treats!
- Character-Inspired marshmallows- These treats that most perfect combine classic and quirky can be found inside the Main Street Confectionery. Three marshmallows are stacked on a souvenir Mickey Mouse straw before they are dipped in piping hot chocolate and dressed with red sugar and finished off with chocolate candies…I can’t quite put my finger on it, but these marshmallows remind me of a certain Mouse…
- S’mores Baked Alaska- I would recommend The Boathouse purely for atmosphere alone. When you add in the delicious food and great cocktails, it’s easy to see why it’s one of my favorites. And if you throw in the s’mores baked Alaska at the end of the meal…you’ve got yourself a Disney Springs evening you won’t soon forget! The gigantic slab of rocky road ice cream is encrusted in buttery graham cracker and then completely covered in…you guessed it…marshmallows! You’re going to want to bring at least 2 other folks with you to help you finish it off.
- S’mores- The Ganachery is serving up made to order s’mores that elevate the classic campfire staple to a level beyond any backyard roasters’ wildest dreams. When you order yours, a gigantic house made square Disney marshmallow gets nice and toasty before it is united with some of that super-rich chocolate The Ganachery is known for. Just as the marshmallow starts to melt the chocolate, the combo gets sandwiched between two graham crackers and is ready for you to devour!
- Marshmallow-filled cupcake- For this summer only, you can get the all-new Disney marshmallow-filled cupcake at any of the three All Star Resorts! The cupcake is part of the new lineup of iridescent desserts Disney has just rolled out, and with featured flavors like cotton candy and marshmallow, it’s right in time for the sweetest season of all! The cupcake is gorgeous, so make sure to snap a photo for Instagram before you take your first bite!
- Complimentary Roasting- Yes you read that right, you can roast a Disney marshmallow at select Walt Disney World Resorts for FREE! Just before sunset each night, the Deluxe Resorts light a cast member-monitored campfire where you and your entire family can roast as many complimentary marshmallows as your heart desires! All you have to do is ask, and the cast member on duty will be more than happy to give you a fresh marshmallow to toast over the open fire! If anyone asks, I re-load my stick three times, not four ok?
Chip N’ Dale’s Campfire Singalong- For the ultimate summer campfire atmosphere, you’re going to want to head over to The Campsites at Fort Wilderness for Chip and Dale’s singalong! While the entertainment is free, you’ll have to buy (or bring!) your own s’mores supplies. Don’t worry about showing up empty-handed though, there are s’mores kits for sale at the nightly event that will do the job just fine. Bring your dancing shoes and warm up those vocal chords, because the more you participate, the more fun you’re going to have! Which of these Disney marshmallow treats will you try on your next visit?
