10 Best Thrill Rides at Disney World
One of the things I love most about Walt Disney World is that it’s a family friendly park…especially when it comes to the attractions. At Disney World, there are rides to satisfy every level of thrill seeker in the family…even those of us who love the adrenaline rush that comes with high drops, sharp turns, and speeding through a building on a rocket in the dark! If you’re like me, the bigger the thrill the better the ride, which is why I’ve made a list of the top 10 best thrill rides at Disney World.
10. Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash is a brand-new ride at Disney World’s Hollywood Studios opening only a few weeks ago. This coaster is a family-friendly ride and definitely a must. Climb aboard Slinky Dog and travel through Andy’s backyard on this bending and twisting roller coaster.
9. Dinosaur
Dinosaur is located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park and takes you on an adventure where you board a vehicle entitled the Time Rover and travel back in time to the prehistoric era in search of a specific dinosaur in the hopes of saving it from extinction. With sharp turns, bumpy roads, and dinosaurs it makes for a turbulent and thrilling ride.
8. Test Track
Test Track is located in Epcot and the attraction takes you through the process for testing the performance of a vehicle. The ride starts with the riders designing a virtual concept vehicle which you’ll then test with a simulation car. Once you’ve finished designing your car, you’ll board a six-passenger car and go through the four different testing procedures finishing off with speed which brings your car speeding around the building topping off at 65 mph.
7. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is deceiving when it comes to it’s status among thrill rides at Disney. At first glance it seems like a kid ride, but it’s surprisingly super fun! On this attraction you board a runaway mine train that races through an old gold-mining town. With dips, curves, and a mine train on the loose it really is “the wildest ride in the wilderness!”
6. Mission Space
Coming in at number six, Mission Space is one of Disney’s under appreciated thrill rides. The attraction is located in Epcot which means you’ll be learning while also having fun! Mission Space is a NASA-style training simulator where you learn the ins and outs of how to launch into space. The simulator makes you feel as if you’re blasting off into space. Each person receives a job during the ride and it’s an unforgettable experience.
5. Avatar Flight of Passage
Flight of Passage is one of Disney World’s newest and most innovative rides. Located in Animal Kingdom’s Pandora – The World of Avatar, it’s here that you can hop on the back of a mountain banshee for a thrilling 3D ride through Pandora. The ride is just short of five minutes long and the Imagineers did an amazing job at immersing you into the world of Pandora. The simulator makes you feel as if you are really there flying on living and breathing creature. It’s truly amazing and shouldn’t be missed.
4. The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
The Tower of Terror is an iconic ride located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios and is currently the symbol used to represent the park. This ride is based off the old T.V. show The Twilight Zone, however, Disney also released a movie a few years later called the Tower of Terror that’s based off the attraction. The ride takes place in The Hollywood Tower Hotel where you board a service elevator that takes you on a trip hurtling you up and down the elevator shaft multiple times leaving you hovering above your seats. What really makes this ride one of the best is that each ride is unique. They use a special software that changes the up and down pattern for each ride so that you never know what’s coming.
3. Space Mountain
Have you ever dreamed of going into space? If you answered yes, then Space Mountain is the thrill rideat Disney for you. Located in Magic Kingdom this ride allows you to board a rocket set to launch for space. Once your rocket is launched your journey continues in complete darkness with only the stars and galaxies to light your way. Prepare yourself for sharp turns and sudden drops that leave you wondering what comes next.
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is located at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Climb aboard a super-stretch limo for a wild and crazy ride down the freeways of Los Angeles. Your ride takes off going from 0 to 57 mph in 2.8 seconds! You then barreling through the darkness while your surrounded by neon signs and Aerosmith is blasting in your ears. With three inversions and high speeds this coaster has earned its spot at #2.
1. Expedition Everest
Located in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom Park this coaster comes in at number one. Board a train that speeds 50 miles an hour through the Himalayan Mountains while eluding the infamous Yeti. This is no ordinary roller coaster because it goes both forwards and backwards. It even contains an 80-foot drop that causes even the bravest of riders to scream at the top of their lungs. Go on and take a chance on this thrilling adventure, but make sure you don’t get caught by the Yeti!
