Top 5 Cookies at Walt Disney World You Should Eat
There are so many Disney-related sites out there that slap together articles by writers who claim to know ‘the best cocktail’ or ‘the best pizza’ at Walt Disney World Resort, and while there are quite a few whose picks I can get behind, the vast majority lack the one major factor that make a reputable point. Research! When it comes to Disney food and how it fits in to your vacation plan, research is the most important part…both for soon-to-be vacationers like you, and writers like me! While I don’t claim to have tasted all the cookies at Walt Disney World (I’m working towards it!), you’ll never hear me recommend a food that I haven’t personally tasted and LOVED because honestly, there are too many awesome food choices available to settle for anything less than stellar!
If you didn’t get it by now, you should know that I’m in a 10+ year relationship with Disney foods, and things are really getting serious. I don’t joke about my borderline obsession with the food at the Resorts, and I especially don’t kid around when it comes to dessert! Rich ice cream, thick brownies, decadent dipped apples, and specialty krispie treats can and should be part of every Walt Disney World vacation, but today I’m talking about the most classic and well-done dessert on Property…cookies! All of the cookies on the list have been sampled (a few times) and have passed my strict test with flying colors…see if your favorite made the top 5!
5. Snickerdoodle
Ahh, the classic snickerdoodle. You’ve probably had hundreds; the sugar cookie based dough, the cinnamon-y/sugar-y coating, and the soft center are the telltale characteristics, and so often a proclaimed ‘snickerdoole cookie’ fails at least one of those categories. Head to Big Top Souveniers in Magic Kingdom for an wholesomely simple take on the classic cookie. They might not be the most appealing thing in the big glass case full of sweet treats, but they are by far one of the tastiest! The big, thick, hockey puck-shaped cookie is a tiny bit crunchy around the perfectly baked edges, but that middle…that chewy, soft, dense middle is what earns this cookie top honors in my book!
4. Caramel Apple Cookie
You’ll have to head to the Germany Pavilion in Epcot for this next one, but I would travel to the real Germany for the next cookie on the list! The caramel apple cookie from Karamell Küche absolutely deserves the throngs of Instagram posts and social media shout outs it gets because it really is that good. The base of the cookie is a cross between an oatmeal cookie (in texture) and a butter cookie (in flavor), and the combo of the fat/grain mixture succeeds in keeping the chunks of dried apple that stud the batter soft and chewy. The smooth caramel drizzle on top amps up the sweetness, and my only complaint is that it’s too big to finish in one sitting!
3. Double Chocolate Chip Ice Cream Sandwich
Going against the popular opinion and bucking trends is what makes life fun and interesting, and I’m about to go against popular opinion by directing you not to the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, but to Tamu Tamu Refreshments for my favorite ice cream cookie sandwich inside park gates! The double chocolate chip ice cream sandwich is as delicious as it sounds- two double dark chocolate chip cookies are used as the vice that holds one perfect scoop of vanilla ice cream snugly in place. The cookies are firm enough to withstand the task, yet somehow maintain a slight chewiness that lets you know they’re super fresh. The one downfall of this amazing treat is that it is extremely messy, and I’ve learned the hard way that that a knife and fork are your best bet if you want the majority of it to end up in your belly and not on the ground.
2. Sprinkles Ice Cream Sandwich
I’m not sure if it’s the cookies or the ice cream, but something about this combo is so good that it has taken the #2 spot on the list! Sprinkles certainly isn’t known for their cookies, and I didn’t even know the brand made cookies until I saw someone eating a cookie ice cream sandwich at the shop in Disney Springs! The thing that really sets these apart is the customization options. You can choose any 2 cookies to pair with any flavor of ice cream to create the dessert of your childhood dreams! My favorite combo is to order a peanut butter pretzel cookie and fudge brownie cookie (SO rich and decadent) and pair them with a scoop of classic vanilla ice cream. That way, I’m getting the full flavor of that amazing cookie combo without overloading my senses with a wacky ice cream flavor.
1. Ghirardelli
If you have just one night to visit Disney Springs’ Ghirardelli, order one of their ice cream sundaes. They really can’t be beat, but their take on the chocolate chip cookie is the best I’ve tasted at the Resort! Those giant chocolate-drizzled Mickey cookies don’t hold a candle to these bad boys, and your first and only stop when you’re in the market for a chocolate chipper should be Ghirardelli! I like the dough because it does not have a predominant butter forward flavor, but a flavor that is subtle and does its job of creating a chewy bed for all of those decadent Ghirardelli chocolate chips to melt in! Speaking of melting, ask for your cookie to be served warm for one of the best chocolate chip cookie flavor explosions you’re going to find! This massively thick cookie is tough to finish alone, and if you wrap up whatever you can’t finish, you’ll have the pleasure of tasting the cooled down version at a later time and be blown away all over again! Have you tried the chocolate chip cookie from Ghirardelli, or would you prefer one of the cookie ice cream sandwiches from Sprinkles? What is your favorite kind of cookie?
