Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday here at MickeyBlog.com!
We all know that Walt Disney World is known for its iconic eats – popcorn, pretzels, ice cream and even Mickey waffles. HOWEVER – did you know that the theme parks are about SO much more than those classic well-loved treats? Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Fried Twinkie
As most of you know, I love featuring treats on Tasty Treat Tuesday that balance the salty and the sweet. Today, I’m taking a detour from my traditional salty-sweet snacks and featuring a treat that could literally take you into a sugary diabetic coma of snack-sized goodness. If you are looking for the ultimate sugar rush, I’ve got the perfect treat for you!
Come join me, today, for Tasty Treat Tuesday’s newest sweet treat – the Fried Twinkie!
What is it?
A Hostess Twinkie dipped in batter and deep fried. Drizzled with a choice of strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, or caramel sauce.
Why try it?
A Hostess Twinkie is the classic snack of golden sponge cake with a cream filled center. It is soft, sweet, creamy and tasty on its own. But something truly magical happens when this classic grocery store treat is fried in hot oil. The cream filled center liquifies, turning the interior of the golden sponge into an airy vanilla soaked cake. The sponge warms and softens into an almost melted consistency.
Ooey Gooey is Good!
Finally, the deep-fried buttery crust holds the ooey gooey interior of melted Twinkie. It is a perfect bite of crunch from the crust, vanilla from the cream, and butter from the Twinkie cake. For guests wanting an ultimate sugar rush, ask for the chocolate, vanilla, or caramel sauce. But I much prefer the strawberry drizzle for its slight tang which balances the sweetness of the fried Twinkie with a touch of tart.
Where can I find it?
Fried Twinkies can currently be found in Walt Disney World at Friar’s Nook in Magic Kingdom. Friar’s Nook is a small little quick service spot tucked away under a space in Fantasyland between Princess Fairytale Hall and the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. For a while, Friar’s Nook was my favorite spot to pick up a loaded macaroni and cheese. Now this spot is churning out Tasty Treat Tuesday Fried Twinkie AND some amazing loaded tots. But we’ll get to those tots in a future post!
