National Something on a Stick Day at WDW
Is it just me, or has the number of national days rapidly increased over the past few years? National pizza day, national ice cream day, national cookie day national pickle day….some of them are a stretch, but anytime I’m given an excuse to chow down on my favorite foods I will happily take full advantage without question. March 18 was a recent national dedication day, and when I first heard about it, the very first thing that came to mind was how badly I wish to be in Disney for it!
There are a ton of famed ‘Disney snacks’ out there. Everything from refillable popcorn buckets to churros to the adorable Mickey waffles have fan blogs dedicated to them on the web. For this national holiday, though, you won’t need a knife, fork, or utensil of any kind to properly participate. National something on a stick day would be best celebrated with the following: one-handed eating, and one of the following Walt Disney World snacks!
Dinner on a Stick
The food trucks are back at Disney Springs after having been uprooted during a lengthy stint of construction. When I’m visiting Disney Springs, it would take a lot for me to forego one of the fantastic restaurants in favor of a food truck meal, but on national something on a stick day, I just might do it! The only place you can be served a traditional corn dog on a stick comes from a kitchen on wheels in the food truck park at Disney Springs, and from what I’ve heard, they’re very tasty. An added bonus? The dogs are served with deliciously crispy and salty waffle fries! Since they don’t come on sticks, you’ll have to use the corn dog stick to stab and eat the fries…kidding.
No Utensils Necessary
Disney pastry chefs love to make their treats in the shape of Mr. Mouse just as much as they love to serve their creations on a stick. Disney’s krispie treats are regarded as some of the best around, and when they’re formed into such an adorable shape, it’s not really a surprise. For a fun twist on the Mickey-on-a-stick krispie, head to Goofy’s Candy Co. in Disney Springs! Here, you can create your own krispie treat and watch as a cast member brings your creation to life right before your eyes! Choose from dark, milk, or white chocolate and choose from a long list of add-ons like peanuts, sprinkles, m&m’s, and so much more!
Licks and Sticks
Brightly colored and meticulously twisted into an eye-catching spiral, there isn’t a better parade-time snack than a giant lollipop. Think about it: its one of the few treats that wont melt, won’t get cold, and can easily be re-wrapped and saved for later…perfect! If you’re waiting for the parade to pass, wandering around Disney Springs, or find yourself at any of the other parks or resorts on March 18, you’ll never be far from a Disney lollipop. There are so many options to choose from, but you can never go wrong with these guys right here. They’re small, easy to transport, come on a stick, and look just like the Mickey balloons!
You’ve seen them on mugs, t-shirts, and plastered all over Instagram and Twitter. Mickey’s Premium ice cream bars are a Disney staple I always make sure to indulge in when I visit. There are a few treats and snacks I always make sure to get when I visit, but I can’t remember there ever being a time I ended a Walt Disney World vacation without (at least) 2 Mickey’s Premiums in my belly. My mom prefers the ice cream sandwich version, but it is my go-to, all-time favorite that you’ll be after on March 18. Take your photo with your ice cream bar quickly, you don’t want any of that deliciousness to melt.
Healthier Ways to Celebrate
It’s hard to celebrate any holiday or national day when you’re watching what you eat, trust me, I know. If you were at Walt Disney World Resort on March 18 aand can’t fit one of the above treats into your diet, have no fear, there are two equally as fun and delicious options for you. Oh, and they’re both served on sticks.
Fruit and chocolate are a match made in heaven. The natural sweet/tartness of the fruit compliments and enhances the chocolate, and vice versa. In the Big Top Souvenirs tent in Fantasyland, you’ll find a case full of tempting sweet decadences, but you’re after the chocolate dipped pineapple on a stick! You get to choose from milk or dark chocolate, and let me tell you, you won’t feel like you’re on a diet when you bite into it!
You can find specialty, hand-dipped apples resort-wide, so you needn’t worry about hunting one down. Served in practically every store with a case, caramel/chocolate Mickey apples are a tasty way to celebrate something on a stick day without breaking the calorie bank. With so many designs to choose from, it’s impossible to list them all here, but I want to know which you choose! Let me know in the comments below. And don’t forget, everything tastes better on a stick!
