Help! I Like Disney More Than I Thought I Would!
“Sure”, I said when my wife pitched the idea of taking a family trip to Disneyland in 2015. I mean who really needs to be talked into a Disney trip? I hadn’t been to Disneyland since 1973 (I was 3 years old!) and I would have described myself as a very mild Disney aware. Not a big fan, just aware enough to have seen most of the movies and sing the Hakuna Matata with my kids in the car. No big deal.
But, still if I remembered my trip to Disney at age 3, why not do what my parents did and give my kids that same once in a childhood memory. Get it, all about the kids, right?
Free Planning?
“How much does it cost” was the next thing I said to my wife. She said she already had a ‘MickeyTravels’ Disney planner working on some cost options. I was surprised that someone else would plan the details of the trip and give us options to fit our trip budget. I was even more happy when I found out the trip planning expertise did not add any cost to our trip! I like free!
I think every parent gets excited to see their kids reaction when the youngsters find out they are going to Disney. We told our kids the morning of our flight and they were pumped! As parents we were getting pretty excited too.
The Magic of Disney
Our ride dropped us off at the Disneyland Hotel around sunset. It had been a long day but the hotel lobby, the castmembers and the Disney setting were beyond compare. We got up early the next day. And the magic of the hotel and Downtown Disney just multiplied once we set foot in Disneyland Park.
We had our first-timer buttons on and the morning was glorious. A cast member sweeping the grounds offered to take a family pic and explained how fast passes work and highly recommended the Fantasmic fast pass. We had no clue but we just followed instructions.
This was just the beginning of what would turn out to be just the most fun, most memorable, most adventurous, most magical trip we’d ever taken as a family. After four days, we were beyond thrilled with Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, character meals, swimming and water sliding, dedicated castmembers and headboards that light up with fireworks, and bedtime fables on TV.
When Are We Coming Back?
I guess we had to go home. But on our last morning I had made up my mind that this was not going to be the only childhood Disney trip for my kids and maybe secretly I told myself I had to come back for me too. Oh yeah, Fantasmic was amazing and our fastpass seats put us in the best spot to see it all!
