You’ve probably seen this Disney Movie Club advertisement before: Get 4 Disney movies for $1. You’ve probably blown it off. You probably said it was too good to be true.
But it isn’t. You can actually get 4 Disney movies for $1 with free shipping by joining the Disney Movie Club. The Disney Movie Club is a subscription service for Disney films. If you like having a massive collection of DVDs or Blu-Rays, this service is for you. As a member for the last two years, I know everything there is to know about the Disney Movie Club.
Do you Really get 4 Movies for $1?
Yes. It’s not false marketing. However, like all good deals, there is a catch. You must buy 5 full-priced movies through the Disney Movie Club over the next 2 years. Movies purchased through other vendors such as Walmart or Amazon do NOT count. Once you buy 5 full-priced movies, you have fulfilled your membership commitment.
Being forced to buy 5 movies in 2 years seems overwhelming. However, Disney releases a lot of movies in the span of a year. There are already a few hundred movies to choose from on the website. Fulfilling the membership commitment is very easy. I fulfilled mine in less than six months.
How Much do the Movies Cost?
If you opt for the DVD plan, each full-priced DVD is $19.99. If you opt for the Blu-Ray plan, each full-priced Blu-Ray is $29.99. If you are in the Blu-Ray plan, you can NOT buy full-priced DVDs and have it count towards your membership commitment.
If you’re in the DVD plan, you CAN buy full-priced Blu-Rays and have it count towards your membership commitment. In my opinion, it’s always better to buy the Blu-Rays. The Blu-Rays tend to have both the Blu-Ray and DVD of the film bundled together. This way, if you lose one disc, you still have a physical copy of your movie.
Sometimes, these purchases include shipping. Sometimes, they don’t. Full-priced movies purchased through the Disney Movie Club are more expensive. Walmart or Target tend to sell new Disney releases for $24.99. And sometimes they have sales and the movies are even cheaper.
However, you don’t save money by buying the full-priced movies. You save money on the discounted movies.
What are the Discounts?
The typical discount is 30%, 40%, or 50% off all additional movies when you purchase one movie for full price. Sometimes, the 30% or 40% discount will include free shipping. The 50% discount never includes free shipping.
The discounts change once about every four weeks. Even without the shipping, the 50% discount is the best discount. It’s worth waiting a few weeks to buy with this discount, as compared to the 30% and 40%.
These discounts are ideal for people who want to buy more movies at the same time. The more movies you buy, the more money you’ll save on shipping.
Perks of Being a VIP
Once you fulfill your membership agreement, you become a VIP member. VIP members have access to Disney Movie Club exclusive pins and merchandise. The pins and merchandise tend to correspond with the newest films coming out on Blu-Ray.
For instance, when Moana came out on DVD, they released a bag with Moana and Maui on it. When The Lion King came out of the vault, a Timon and Pumba pin was available to members. Often, the merchandise is free or less than $10. The pins are always free when you buy a full-priced movie.
VIP members also get better discounts than regular members. The typical discount is 50% or 60% off all additional movies when you purchase one movie for full price. The 50% discount usually comes with free shipping. The 60% discount almost never comes with free shipping, unless it’s the holiday season.
Why is the Disney Movie Club Better?
The Disney Movie Club offers a wider selection of movies than your local superstore. There are Marvel movies, Star Wars movies, animated movies, live action movies, television series, and movies for adults. There are over forty Blu-Rays exclusive to the Club, including direct-to-video animated sequels.
There are even 3D movies and movies in 4K available. Almost any Disney-related movie you can think of that isn’t in the Disney Vault is available on the website.
You can even get movies for free. For each friend you recommend, you can get 2 Blu-Rays for free. There is no limit to the number of friends you can recommend. If you’re popular, you may never have to pay for a Disney movie again.
The Disney Movie Club is also great for those who like to know when the next movie is coming out on Blu-Ray. Most of the time, the Disney Movie Club gives the release date before any other source. I’ve seen movies appear on the Club a month before their release was announced to the rest of the internet.
Who is the Disney Movie Club for?
It’s for anyone who loves Disney and loves owning the movies. However, the Disney Movie Club is best for people who want to build their movie collection. It’s great for those who want to build their collection as fast as possible. The Disney Movie Club is also great if you like owning movies other people don’t have.
The Disney Movie Club exclusives are great finds. If you like obscure Disney or you want the biggest movie collection in your neighborhood, then the Disney Movie Club is for you.

One thing you might want to add that I found to be really important when searching for information: the Blu-Ray versions of the original 5 for $1 each all come with the DVD and a Digital version! This is what I was worried about since we regularly use all three versions. I didn’t want to invest in something that didn’t have what our family would use. However it was just $1 each so not that big of a gamble. We also did the addition 2 movies at discounted prices and those have the DVD and Digital as well!

Just joined. I bought 4K in Canada at Best Buy. Last month they had Marvel movies 4K for $25 special for Last Jedi & Infinity War. But then they raised prices for Marvel, Star Wars and most Disney movies new 4K to $35. So one you get 4 movies free anyone. I’d choose latest titles Blu Ray always as you will most likely get Blu Ray with Digital Code and some title with DVD. They pick. Delivery time sux. 4-5 weeks. Cause they come from US and gotta find titles. Getting more popular titles and new faster delivery. Great thing is I compared to Amazon when they have great sales. I buy with 40% off second title and free delivery 4K now. So it comes out to $28 per 4K dvd. You’d have to wait long time on Amazon or Best Buy to get a new 4K for $25-$30. Keep in mind that you also got the 4 plus movies for a 1$ and also make sure same time order 2 movies mostly costly ones like Frozen or Marvel where you get them for $28 both with one counting as a commitment. Also, again they come with Disney Rewards. 4K gives you 200points. Blu Rays 150. With 2000pts you get a 4K movie for free. I got Avengers Age of Ultron. When you sign up you can see every title and what it is and pick it. It’s worth it if your into Marvel and Star Wars and new live action movies.
I first really loved the Disney Movie Club, and still enjoy some of the perks from time to time, but since we have built our collection and now just buy newer movies as they come out, not so much. This is for two reasons- 1. being that that sometimes the pre-order prices are higher than the prices once the movie is released (yet has not even shipped yet) and 2. If pre-ordering from DMC, it gets shipped and arrived sometimes weeks after the film is already digitally available. Due to those facts, I only pre-order films from DMC if it specifically comes with something for a gift, such as Nutcracker and Four Realms came with a bookmark to add with the movie, and Captain Marvel comes with extra posters that my daughter will love. Generally though, a pre-order from VUDU has competitive pricing and is available to watch on the digital availability day, rather than waiting for a shipment. Lastly, the shipment tracking is not the best either with sometimes it not working at all, and the inability to ensure it is sent by a specific day such as a birthday. Overall, I believe DMC is great for starting and building the Disney collection, but loses some of its value as time goes on, with only some of the perks worth keeping it.
