5 Awesome Reasons to Visit Disney in the Winter
Tis the season to… go to Disney World? Though you might not initially consider an excursion to Orlando, Florida during the holiday season or at the start of a New Year, there are countless benefits in a family wintertime visit. Visiting Disney in the winter is amazing!
From being able to wander and explore the parks without battling crowds and enjoying the sunshine without the unbearable heat and humidity to the special offerings that only come but-once-a-year, make it your resolution to immerse yourself in the most magical place on Earth every season, starting with the coolest one. (Literally.)
Specialized Disney travel agents will take care of the planning and the bookings for you, but if you’re curious about what to expect, here’s what you need to know about a wintry getaway to Walt Disney World:
The Weather is Just About Perfect.
While every month of the year presents a unique opportunity or event for Mickey Mouse fans, the dead heat of the appropriately-named Sunshine State’s mascot can be quite unforgiving in the dog days of summer. In the winter though?
You won’t feel like you’re soaked from head-to-toe in sweat and your children won’t complain every half hour (about the weather, anyway) with average highs of 75. You might even pack a Disney hoodie or princess sweatshirt for the journey, since evenings in the park watching the light show can get chilly, around 51 degrees. Who knows, since it’s winter, you might even be comfortable enough to have a hot chocolate!
The Parks Add Another Layer of Festive.
Though we’re sure your holiday home decorations are Instagram-worthy, you’ll be blown away by the festive ambiance of any Disney park. Since it’s the most wonderful time of year at the happiest place on earth, Walt Disney World really goes big with wreaths, lights, life-size gingerbread houses, holiday music on repeat, glittering garland and more sweet touches.
No celebration is complete, of course, without special menus! Throughout the park, you’ll see limited offerings of Stollen bread, chocolate-peppermint bark, holiday cookies, roasted chestnuts and much more. Especially if your family decides to pack it all up and ring in Christmas Day at a Disney Resort, you won’t’ miss out on any of your beloved recipes from home, since many restaurants offer all the fixins’ and classic concoctions.
Fitness is Encouraged.
Since the start of a new calendar year challenges us to reconsider what we hope for our next lap around the sun, Disney gives visitors the opportunity to improve their health in January. Nicknamed ‘RunDisney’, attending marathon weekend and witnessing the endurance, the dedication and the grit of the runners could inspire you to start your own training. That way next year, you can return to bring home a finisher’s medal of your own!
It’s Far Less Crowded.
With smaller crowds during the time of year, (excluding the holidays of course!) you and your family or friends will be more likely to take it easy and see everything you want to see without shoving your way through the chaos. Apart from Marathon Weekend, January and most of February have far less visitors, allowing you to snag off-season suite prices. (No pun intended.)
You Can Learn About Worldwide Celebrations without a Passport.
If you happen to make it to Walt Disney World in November or December, you won’t only enjoy the seasonal decor and bites, but the chance to give your kid’s a history lesson about the holiday traditions of the world.
Annually, Epcot hosts a storyteller from various countries, including Canada, France, Italy and countless others. Be ready to answer thoughtful questions, as your kids learn about Pere Noel, La Befana and of course, the man in red himself, Santa.
