Tasty Treat Tuesday – Beignet Gelato Sundae
Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday here at MickeyBlog.com!
We all know that Walt Disney World is known for its iconic eats – popcorn, pretzels, ice cream and even Mickey waffles. Every Disney vacation, I immediately head to the nearest quick service spot and grab my favorite classic treat – The Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar. The rich dark chocolate shell wrapped around soft vanilla ice cream is the perfect start to my vacation! Magic starts with that first bite!
HOWEVER – did you know that the theme parks are about SO much more than those classic well-loved treats? Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Beignet Gelato Sundae
Today, we are going to float up Disney’s Sassagoula River to one of my favorite Walt Disney World resorts which serves the most amazing fried treats. So, let’s keep things lively with this New Orleans inspired Tasty Treat – the Beignet Gelato Sundae.
What is it?
A warm beignet topped with vanilla gelato, caramel, and whipped cream. The beignet is a piece of sweetened dough that is fried to order, dusted with powdered sugar, and served piping hot.
Why try it?
New Orleans has been churning these delectable pastries of fried dough for years. In 1986, the beignet was officially declared the state doughnut of Louisiana … so it must be good, right?
With one bite, Disney’s beignet will quickly transport you to New Orleans with its crispy outside and perfectly hollow center. The light and airy shape is akin to eating little pillows of sweetened dough. As you cut into the sugar dusted beignet, the addition of soft and creamy vanilla gelato slowly oozes into the inner cavity of the puffed dough. There is nothing better than warm and cold in one perfect bite! This dessert is wonderfully sweet and highly addictive. I highly recommend adding the caramel sauce topping as the silky, sticky caramel binds the gelato and beignet together into one ooey gooey delight.
Where can I find it?
The Beignet Gelato Sundae can be found at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, the quick service restaurant located in Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter. This quick service spot is a guest favorite and offers a variety of cajun flavors inspired by New Orleans. The jambalaya, gumbo, and shrimp n’ grits are most certainly Tiana approved!
Even if you are not staying at Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter, it’s a great place to explore on a non-theme park day. Start your evening with a bowl of gumbo and the Beignet Gelato Sundae at Sassagoula Floatworks. Then, it’s a very relaxing short walk beside the Sassagoula River to the sister resort, Port Orleans – Riverside, where you can finish your adventure with a nightcap at River Roost Lounge where Disney Legend Yee-Haw Bob has been entertaining guests for years!
