Tasty Treat Tuesday – Hand-Dipped Corn Dog
Welcome back to Tasty Treat Tuesday here at MickeyBlog.com!
We all know that Walt Disney World is known for its iconic eats – popcorn, pretzels, ice cream and even Mickey waffles. Every Disney vacation, I immediately head to the nearest quick ser-vice spot and grab my favorite classic treat – The Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar. The rich dark chocolate shell wrapped around soft vanilla ice cream is the perfect start to my vacation! Magic starts with that first bite!
HOWEVER – did you know that the theme parks are about SO much more than those classic well-loved treats? Each week, I’m ready to show you a unique tasty treat and where to find it on your next Disney vacation!
So, come join me on this weekly journey to find your new favorites! It’s time to create a new tradition!
Tasty Treat: Hand-Dipped Corn Dog
Today, we are headed to the original theme park on the West Coast – Disneyland – to feature our first savory snack at Tasty Treat Tuesday. It’s time to walk in Walt’s footsteps and find our next new favorite – the Hand-Dipped Corn Dog!
What is it?
A hot dog on a stick that is hand-dipped in cornbread batter and deep fried to order.
Why try it?
Corn dog? Really? What’s so great about that when anyone can get one at a local grocery store in the freezer section? Well, yes. All that is true. We’ve all probably had millions upon mil-lions of corn dogs at amusement parks, carnivals, and sporting events.
So … meh, right? NOPE!
This hand-dipped corn dog is NOT the same as those cold and sad ones sitting for hours under a hot lamp! This salty hot dog is dipped in Disney’s secret recipe corn dog batter. The batter is smooth and textured with a sweet corn flavor. When fried – it becomes soft on the inside and perfectly golden and crisp on the outside. With one bite, the hot doughy sweet corn combines with the salty chew of the dog. It’s heaven on a stick. This is no ordinary dog. Especially when it is eaten at a Disney theme park. And hand dipped. Fried to order. Eaten hot and fresh and surrounded by Disney magic.
Not a hot dog fan? We’ve STILL got you covered! There’s also a not-so-meaty option called a Cheddar Cheese Stick which is hand-dipped in the same corn dog batter. Ooey gooey cheesy melty goodness. It’s time for dinner! Let’s eat!
Where can I find it?
The original hand-dipped corn dog can be found at a quaint spot called Little Red Wagon on Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland. If the line is too much for you, you can also grab one at Stage Door Cafe in Frontierland or park hop over to Corndog Castle in California Adventure Park.
Walt Disney World fans – don’t dismay! You are not forgotten. Although the Disneyland version is arguably still the best, you can find a tasty substitute to your corn dog craving at Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Magic Kingdom.
Have you tried it yet? If not, stop on by one of these spots and let me know what you think of the hand-dipped corn dog!
