Adventures by Disney – Rhine River Cruises
Imagine exploring 4 European countries via a luxurious river cruise ship, touring historic sites, participating in adventure activities and enjoying exemplary service the entire time! If you think this sounds too good to be true, read on…
Adventures by Disney offers worldwide itineraries, where families can see the world and experience local cultures and traditions together. Adventure Guides will take adventurers to both popular tourist sites, as well as destinations off the beaten path. There are tours and activities planned for everyone and they all come with that magical Disney service!
One of the most popular Adventures by Disney vacations is a Rhine River Cruise. These all-inclusive adventure vacations include 7 breakfasts (onboard), 6 lunches (combination of onboard and local restaurants) and 7 dinners (onboard), deluxe outside stateroom accommodations, daily excursions, Adventure Guides and local experts, all gratuities, unlimited local wine, beer and soft drinks onboard, variety of onboard entertainment options for all ages, wifi and much more! While onboard the ship, you can also take advantage of the many amenities, including a heated pool with swim-up bar, fitness center, massage and hair salon, library, and sundeck, just to name a few!
This 8 day/7 night cruise travels to picturesque destinations with a variety of sightseeing tours, cultural activities and free-time to explore the port cities. In 2018, experience the familiar sights and sounds of Beauty & the Beast and see first-hand where the inspiration for the film came from.
Note: The minimum age for this itinerary is 4 years old; however, the suggested age is 8 and older. Some activities and excursions have additional minimum age requirements, so be sure to check those when making your daily plans!
Day 1: Basel, Switzerland:
Your adventure begins in Basel, where you will board your AmaWaterways cruise ship. Once onboard, settle into your spacious stateroom and join fellow adventurers for a cocktail reception, consisting of Swiss cheese and local wine, followed by a delicious Captain’s Welcome Dinner.
Day 2: Strasbourg, France:
After a great night’s sleep, your first stop will be in Strasbourg. Here you can choose from a variety of activities. Will you visit the Black Forest, go ziplining, take a toboggan ride, or hike to majestic waterfalls? Or perhaps you would rather visit the beautiful village of Riquewihr, complete with cobblestone streets, via guided horseback ride? If you think Riquewihr looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale, there’s a reason for that…it served as inspiration for Beauty & the Beast.
You’ll enjoy dinner back onboard, but the adventures don’t end there! After dinner, choose from a private organ concert at St. Thomas Church, Beauty & the Beast karaoke or viewing of the classic animated film, Beauty & the Beast (both onboard activities.)
Day 3: Strasbourg, France:
One day is definitely not enough in Strasbourg, so Disney has arranged for another fun-filled day for you and your family! Today’s choices include a canoe trip, canal boat ride, walking tours and visits to the Cathedral de Notre Dame. After a quick lunch break back onboard, either stay on the ship to take part in a French Macaron baking class or head back out to explore the wine caves of Cave Historique des Hospices. A delectable dinner will be waiting for you onboard, followed by a variety of onboard activities for everyone!
Day 4: Mannheim, Germany
Car enthusiasts will want to spend the day visiting the Porsche and Mercedes Benz museums, while enjoying lunch along the way. You will get to see some classic cars on display, along with concept cars, which may serve as models for future vehicles! Other adventurers will prefer the half-day option of touring the historic town of Heidelberg and visiting the famous Heidelberg castle. After a morning of sightseeing, you can enjoy lunch onboard the ship and then lounge by the pool, go for a massage or relax in your stateroom. Dinner for everyone will be onboard. This will be a great time to share some of your favorite sights and activities so far! Tonight’s activity is an extraordinary one…a Spaghetti Ice Cream Demonstration and Tasting! You can actually watch how this one-of-a-kind dessert is made and, of course, you will get to taste it!
Day 5: Rudesheim, Germany
Get ready for another amazing day…first, you can enjoy a visit to Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet Museum. You’ll view 18th, 19th and 20th century musical instruments and pieces. Next, choose your morning and afternoon activities…they are both great choices, so luckily you don’t really need to pick one. The only decision you will have to make is which one to do before lunch and which one to do after. Will you begin with a bike tour of the wine countryside, followed by Weingut Adolf Storzel Wine Tasting after lunch? Or will it be the other way around? Either way, it will be a truly wonderful experience! If you have time, there are a few “On Your Own” activities that can you choose from before dinner. You can see more of Rudesheim by biking through the town, go to a coffee tasting or take a scenic gondola ride. Just don’t be late heading back to the ship because you will be setting sail for an iconic castle cruise through Rhine Gorge. Along the way, you will see 30 magnificent castles, while the cruise manager gives commentary and historical facts. Also, enjoy a coffee demonstration on the sun deck. As if all of this wasn’t enough for the day, the Adventure Guides and Staff invite you to “Be Their Guest” at a Beauty & the Beast Dinner, with staff dressed to impress, roses given to the ladies and a menu inspired by the movie. After this magical meal, you can view the onboard screening of the Live Action Beauty & the Beast movie.
Day 6: Cologne, Germany
Will you choose the full-day Indoor Winter Park activity, which allows you to go sledding, tubing and test your skills on a ropes course? Or would you rather spend half your day taking a walking tour of Cologne, exploring Cologne Cathedral and either visiting the Fragrance Museum, Chocolate Museum or taking a Pub Tour? Decisions, decisions! If you choose the half-day option, then you will also have your choice of afternoon “on your own” adventures, including free time in Cologne, lunch onboard, afternoon Fruhschoppen (basically, join your Adventure Guides for favorite German snacks and drinks) and a hands-on Beauty & the Beast culinary experience. Finish up your day with another amazing onboard dinner.
Day 7: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Your visit to Amsterdam will be nothing less than incredible! Your activity choices consist of touring the Anne Frank House, visiting Rijksmuseum, exploring the Van Gogh Museum and participating in a painting workshop, visiting a classic fishing village, sightseeing in Zaanse Schans, while decorating your own clog and attending a cheese making demo, plus more! Lunch will be offered onboard in between your activities; and although it feels like you were just enjoying the Welcome Dinner, it is unfortunately now time for the Captain’s Farewell Cocktail Reception and Dinner onboard your ship.
Day 8: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
After your final breakfast onboard, you and your fellow adventurers will be ready to head home after a week of making incredible memories.
You have had the opportunity to see sights, participate in activities, learn about other cultures and traditions and make new friends in a way that only Disney can provide.
Now the only question is “Where will your next adventure take you?”
