Big News: Disney Pulling its Movies From Netflix
Big news coming out of Main Street U.S.A. today. Disney announced on Tuesday August 9, that they will be ending their agreement with streaming service powerhouse, Netflix. The announcement coincided with the news that Disney will be launching two streaming services of their own. The Disney Netflix relationship will soon be over.
Disney Movies Streaming Service
Disney fans can look forward to a new subscription service for its movies and TV empire. By 2020, its entire catalog will be accessible to lovers of Mickey & friends.
“We’ve got this unbelievably passionate base of Disney consumers worldwide that we’ve never had the opportunity to connect with directly other than through the parks,” Bob Iger, Disney Chairman and CEO said. “It’s high time we got into the business to accomplish that.”
Disney Sports Streaming Service
In addition, Disney announced they will offer a sports subscription service via ESPN, which will stream live sporting events.
“Ultimately, we envision this will become a dynamic sports marketplace that will grow and be increasingly customizable, allowing sports fans to pick and choose content that reflects their personal interests,” Iger explained to Wall Street analysts via a conference call.
It will be interesting to see whether Disney ultimately includes their Star Wars and Marvel collections in this new streaming service.
Disney is always looking for ways to stay ahead of the curve and this exciting news allows them to do just.
